The project: Delivery of substantial number of new prisoner places at a prison in Newmarket. The works comprise construction of new buildings along with some refurbishment/upgrade of existing facilities.
This role will provide end-to-end project management across the project lifecycle to meet defined time, cost, technical performance & quality requirements. This is a client-facing role, responsible for collaboration with project team members. You will be highly motivated, understand developing a project plan, identify any specialist requirements, and lead an existing professional team to drive forward the clients’ strategy. You will be responsible for management of necessary project governance and assurance tools to fulfill our obligations. As project manager, you will support the lead in all aspects of delivery by building strong working relationships with clients, colleagues, and supply chain members.
Attendance on site at least 3 days a week is a requirement for this role.
Responsibilities:
- Promote Mace’s value of safety first, exhibiting visible safety behaviours, sharing lessons learned and using safety moments and Mace’s HSW framework to support the safety and wellbeing of all Mace staff.
- Possess technical expertise in local health and safety rules and regulations relevant to project portfolio.
- Promote a diverse and inclusive working environment and understand the importance of the wellbeing of the people in your team.
- Ensure robust quality systems are in place and suitably managed in line with service excellence.
- Manage delivery through the construction phase in accordance with the overall delivery program and agreed project milestones.
- Act as the project Manager under an NEC4 form of contract.
- Manage tasks and associated deliverables in support of other senior leaders, alongside the wider project and client teams, to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of the project.
- Support in establishing effective project controls, governance, and processes to manage the project.
- Work with the client and key stakeholders to drive the master project schedule, holding the team to account on key deliverables, reporting upon risk and early warnings to advise the client of key decisions or items of escalation.
- Prepare funding requirements/supporting business case development for client approval prior to execution of the works.
- Develop and manage effective communication and liaison with all relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure that requirements are identified, assessed, and appropriately integrated into the project.
- Work with a team that strives for quality, safety, cost and schedule improvements at every opportunity with all delivery partners, challenging and seeking to improve the project deliverables.
- Coordinate, plan and manage internal and external meetings in relation to the project, facilitating information exchange and clarifications.
- Prepare various project health reports, ability to communicate both up and downstream presenting within project team and client organisation.
- Effectively manage change to control scope and costs, reporting early warnings, and overall financial performance of a project for both Mace and the client.
- Provide input into client systems including health, safety & wellbeing, project risk assessment and management process to mitigate risk for safe working regimes.
- Monitor key performance management techniques to drive value to the client, capturing knowledge, lessons learned and sharing within the Mace organisation.
Qualifications:
- Membership of RICS, CIOB, APM, ICE or equivalent demonstrable professional or personal development.
- Substantial experience in the successful delivery phase of projects and programmes in the public sector. Previous prison delivery experience is preferred.
- Property or infrastructure project management expertise.
- Commercial and financial acumen.
- Experience of leading parts of projects within large, diverse teams.
- Experience of developing and forming relationships with senior stakeholders.
- Knowledge of how carbon and sustainability considerations will shape the outlook of the projects you are working on.
- Experience in contract administration duties and managing projects using various standard forms of contract including but not limited to: NEC4.
- A passionate, client-focused individual who can build lasting client relationships and work well as part of a team.
