What Is the Opportunity?

As a Senior Data Manager, you will influence strategies to promote effective data governance practices to ensure that data is consistent, trustworthy, and doesn’t get misused. You will measure accuracy, completeness, consistency, and reliability of data to embody and promote Traveler’s data culture values.

Consulting with business partners, you will drive the adoption of data management, governance and metadata policies, standards, and best practices in order to demonstrate the tangible value of strong data governance. You will provide leadership by setting priorities, assigning work and coaching team members. Leveraging your understanding of the data ecosystem, business process and decision-making, as well as the data value chain, you will handle customer requests of advanced complexity for changes to data management tools in order to determine impact on existing systems, process and develop appropriate specifications, enhancements, and procedures to comply.

This role is eligible for a ÂŁ5000 new joiner bonus. If you are successfully referred by an employee at Travelers Europe, both you and the person who referred you could be eligible for this bonus.

What Will You Do?

The International Business Intelligence & Analytics (IBIA) team is looking for a Senior Data Manager to be the local data management lead for IBIA. We are looking for someone who not only wants to collaborate with local (UK/Ireland) stakeholders, but also who wants to work closely with IBIA and Travelers employees in the US and Canada. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone with data management, insurance industry, and/or data analytics experience.

Applicants must be comfortable with a remote reporting (inter-country) relationship.

EU (Local) Support

  1. Facilitate stakeholder meetings and document action items for the completion of data product deliverables
  2. Manage stakeholders by hosting regular touchpoints, inquiring about data concerns, and becoming the go-to person for UK data issues
  3. Work with UK stakeholders and IBIA product owners to conduct cost benefit analyses of data requests, prioritize these requests, and develop data remediation action plans
  4. Support strategic local projects and participate in UK data culture training
  5. Coach, and potentially manage, local data management professionals and analysts

IBIA Data Management Support

  1. Assist with data management responsibilities such as reference data management, standardization of definitions and calculations, and maintenance of data dictionaries in Alation
  2. Perform complex data profiling and analysis and communicate results in support of data quality processes
  3. Leverage knowledge of data models, data relationships, mapping lineage, business rules, and processes to ensure that solutions meet operational and business needs
  4. Work with IT to conduct testing of reference data and other changes and to provide appropriate sign-offs
  5. Conduct root cause analyses of data issues and work with IT to remediate them
  6. Influence business priorities by assisting with road map updates and sprint planning
  7. Contribute ideas to the strategic vision for IBIA by sharing data model ideas and suggesting process improvements
  8. Develop the process of managing the availability, usability, integrity security and privacy of the data
  9. Assist with third party data management, including contract renewals and vendor engagement

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  1. Strong communication and project management skills, including experience managing stakeholders, especially data consumers
  2. Demonstrated ability to identify critical project tasks and establish clear priorities while keeping the bigger picture in mind
  3. Ability to understand data management, including metadata management, lineage, and cataloging
  4. Strong understanding of overall physical and logical data model and of data relationships, mapping, lineage and business rules
  5. Prior experience with one or more of the following Tools and languages – SQL, Snowflake, Teradata, MicroStrategy, Qlik Sense, QlikView, Rally, Jira, and Confluence
  6. Strong understanding of emerging trends in data management
  7. Prior insurance industry experience, preferably Lloyds and/or business insurance

What is a Must Have?

  1. Experience in the same or similar role within the Lloyds market
  2. Bachelor’s degree or significant relevant data and analytics, and/or data management experience
  3. At least intermediate SQL skills

What Is in It for You?

  1. Private Medical Insurance: On commencement of employment, you are eligible for single cover provided by Travelers, with the option to add cover for your dependents, at your expense through payroll deduction.
  2. Retirement: Travelers will make a basic contribution of 9% of pensionable salary to your Group Personal Pension Plan (“GPPP”). If you decide to contribute an additional amount from your salary, you will receive an increased company contribution up to a maximum of 3%. This would bring the total company contribution to 12%.
  3. Holiday Entitlement: Start your career at Travelers with a minimum of 25 days holiday entitlement annually, plus the opportunity to purchase additional days to allow for up to a total of 35 holidays per year.
