Position: Quantity Surveyor Location: South London Company: Main Contractor Type: Permanent Reporting to: Managing Quantity Surveyor We’re recruiting a Quantity Surveyor to join our client, a growing main contractor specialising in new build and refurbishment projects across the commercial, residential, education, and healthcare sectors, with project values up to £20m. With ongoing expansion and future career progression opportunities, now is the perfect time to join. Duties: * Ensure compliance with health & safety policies * Monitor actual gross margin and profit against budgeted targets, providing regular updates to senior management. * Develop and maintain a procurement schedule aligned with the contract programme, updating it monthly and tracking changes with the project team. * Maximise planned gross margin and contribute to achieving the project's financial targets. * Select and appoint contractors, and subcontractors, and procure materials and equipment within delegated authority. * Negotiate and agree on contract variations with clients and suppliers as required. * Implement pricing, cost control, and margin policies. * Measure and value completed work to support invoicing and supplier payments. * Manage project cash flow and provide regular financial updates to stakeholders. * Confirm progress and work valuations with clients and suppliers. * Ensure timely and accurate issuance of customer invoices. * Lead, support, and motivate the commercial team while fostering collaboration between project and surveying functions. * Identify and implement best practices across the project. * Assist in staff appraisals and professional development. * Foster a company culture aligned with the organisation’s values. * Promote excellence and continuous improvement throughout the business. * Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures. * Manage commercial relationships with clients, contractors, and subcontractors. * Build strong partnerships to support contract fulfilment and long-term collaboration. * Represent the company’s values in client interactions and contribute to its industry reputation. * Maintain and enhance client relationships throughout the project lifecycle to maximise value for both parties. * Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial risks. * Control, measure, and evaluate work quality and value. * Recognise contractual, commercial, and operational risks, proposing mitigation strategies. * Support contract delivery in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner while maintaining quality standards. * Provide regular, accurate reports and forecasts on risks, financial performance, operational progress, resource capability and capacity, and compliance with policies and procedures. * Prepare and maintain reports, issuing monthly updates to senior management. * Ensure project completion and proper documentation are in place. * Oversee the release of subcontractor retention payments. * Adhere to the company’s code of conduct and professional standards
