Landscape Operative

• being able to follow instructions carefully (verbal or from drawings), taking responsibility and showing initiative in seeing a project through to completion.

• working to deadlines and helping to maintain the company’s schedule of works and keeping open communication with the supervisor and the office to achieve an end goal.

• competence with power tools and some general site plant is advantagious.

• working as an integral team member or unsupervised; this may also include a supervisory role of our projects depending on experience.

• promoting Walmsley Shaw’s professional image at all times on/off site and to work within the company’s guidelines and policies.

• required working hours on site are based on a 40-hour week (travel time is dependent on location). Driving licence is essential – please note this is a site-based role and your own transport is preferable to meet up with the team.

• our ideal candidate would need to enjoy physically demanding, hard work and would need to be aware that they will be working outside in all weathers.

• must have experience in the construction, building or landscaping industry, although in-house training will be provided to help improve overall hard and soft landscaping skills.

• plant machinery and CSCS qualifications are desirable.

• starting pay is dependent on age and experience – preferably CIS with a full-time position available to the right candidate.

The role is extremely varied with a core focus on conscientious garden construction with a keen eye for detail on mid to large scale country gardens. The role typically includes the use of plant machinery to carry out groundworks, establishing new levels for hard-landscaping elements to produce wonderful gardens and landscapes.

The daily challenges of the job are that it is physically demanding, outdoor working throughout the year, with longer commutes at times but this is why the team are involved with such wonderful projects.
