About the role
The main purpose of this post is to provide teaching and assessment in areas related to humanitarian practice and disaster risk reduction, focusing on humanitarian operations and access, preparedness and risk reduction, and other related themes and skills within crisis and disaster contexts. The person will also supervise independent project work at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
About you
The postholder should have a track record of high-quality practice and/or research in themes related to humanitarian operations and access, and/or other aspects of disaster and crisis management. This may include as examples (but is not restricted to) the following in humanitarian and disaster/crises contexts: humanitarian practice, operations, organisational management, logistics, coordination, humanitarian access, security and politics of decision-making, humanitarian diplomacy and negotiations, decision-making cultures and practice within humanitarian organisations, resilience across value chains, climate change adaptation, the role of aid and volunteers, the use of AI or other technology, ethical, inclusive, and innovative approaches to using data. An understanding of international architecture for humanitarian, climate change adaptation and/or disaster/crisis management will be an advantage. Being able to demonstrate relationships with UN, NGO, government, private sector or community-based organisations that could support student internships or career development will also be an advantage.
