Prime Purpose of Role

This is a new and unique opportunity to start (or progress further) your career in the investment management space. Your data management and data infrastructure skills will be put immediately at work, with the possibility to make an impact on the business from day one, while learning your next skillset in quantitative risk management. In this role, you will have access to industry-leading risk and analytics tools such as FactSet, Axioma Factor Risk Models and Optimisation Tools, Bloomberg MAC3 Risk Models, Style Analytics, and MSCI Liquidity Metrics.

This role will:

  • Support and drive the development of the analytics risk data infrastructure of the Investment Risk Team.
  • Support and drive the data automation, manipulation, and visualisation of the Investment Risk Team.
  • Learn and develop the risk management techniques and capabilities of the Investment Risk Team.
  • Assist the risk team and fund managers in their analytics needs regarding Investment and Liquidity Risk.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support the development of the analytics and report capabilities utilised in portfolio risk oversight, with a focus on market and liquidity risk.
  • Support senior members of the risk team in the preparation of the Quarterly Fund Reviews.
  • Leverage your data management and automation skills to push forward the Risk Analytics department through Risk Analytics production, analysis, and visualisation.
  • Take a primary role in the implementation and development of the database and technological infrastructure used by the investment risk function, to serve the Front Office and the wider business.
  • Learn how to assist and support the analytics needs of the investment teams from an Investment Risk and Liquidity Risk management perspective; and over time, become the dedicated risk analyst for up to 3 Investment Teams/Desks.
  • Learn and master factor risk modelling, ex-ante and ex-post factor risk decomposition, Stress Testing, and Scenario Analysis techniques.
  • Learn and master portfolio construction/optimisation techniques.
  • Work alongside colleagues in Performance Analytics to provide insights on portfolio ex-post outcomes and how they link to ex-ante risk positioning.
  • Participate in the formal oversight process which will include:
    • Daily monitoring and independent review of portfolio risk to identify any material risk changes or emerging risks.
    • Active participation in regular investment strategy oversight meetings chaired by the Head of Investment.
    • Active participation in other relevant governance forums as required.

Regulatory Responsibilities

To conduct themselves in accordance with the regulatory requirements and obligations of the regulated entities, paying due regard to the Financial Conduct Authority’s Senior Manager and Certification Regime.

Key Skills

  • Minimum BSc, ideally MSc educated within Engineering, Statistics/Mathematics, or Computer Science is highly regarded.
  • Some working experience in developing and maintaining data infrastructures is highly regarded.
  • Strong coding skills (SQL, Python, R, MatLab) to support data manipulation, automation, and analysis.
  • Some experience in BI/Visualisation tools development and utilisation would be beneficial.
  • Good theoretical and working knowledge of factor risk modelling is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts in an understandable manner.
  • Some knowledge of Bloomberg and Factset platforms would be beneficial.
