A2Dominion are seeking an experienced Interim Finance Director to provide critical day-to-day leadership across our Financial Accounting, Finance Business Partnering, Systems Accounting, and Accounts Payable functions. This is a demanding, hands-on senior position, requiring strategic vision, exceptional organisational ability, innovation, principled decision-making, outstanding written communication, resilience, and a proactive attitude to learning and improving through experience.
You must swiftly earn trust, confidently lead and inspire a diverse team of over 30 colleagues, providing clarity and stability amidst complexity and multiple competing priorities. The successful candidate will comfortably navigate challenges, drive improvements, and manage effective relationships through significant cross-functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Leadership
- Provide clear and effective day-to-day management and oversight of Financial Accounting, Finance Business Partnering, Systems Accounting, and Accounts Payable functions, ensuring consistent high-quality service delivery.
- Strategic Financial Leadership
- Collaborate with the Corporate Finance Director and Finance Transformation Director to establish and deliver a clear, innovative financial strategy aligned with organisational objectives.
- Offer robust, principled financial advice, supporting effective decision-making at executive and board levels.
- Drive continuous improvement in financial budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes.
- Lead operational excellence initiatives that enhance efficiency and add value across Finance and the wider business.
- Business Partnering Model
- Embed an inclusive and proactive finance business partnering model, integrating finance colleagues effectively within operational teams.
- Mentor and coach department leaders and business partners, providing insightful financial analysis to drive strategic operational decisions.
- Foster a proactive culture where financial assumptions are constructively challenged, efficiencies identified, and strategic support consistently provided.
- Rent and Service Charges
- Oversee rent and service charge management, ensuring accuracy, regulatory compliance, financial sustainability, and tenant affordability.
- Sponsor and drive innovation programmes aimed at improving rent and service charge processes and tenant communication.
- Ensure clear, transparent, and inclusive communications with tenants, enhancing understanding and satisfaction.
- Financial Governance, Compliance, and Process Excellence
- Implement robust financial governance structures and controls organisation-wide, working collaboratively with Governance teams to ensure efficient and effective compliance.
- Deliver clear and comprehensive financial reports that adhere fully to regulatory and statutory obligations.
- Proactively streamline processes, eliminating rework, manual interventions, and inefficiencies.
- Risk Management
- Identify, evaluate, and manage financial risks, particularly around rent arrears and service charge recovery, integrating robust controls within the organisation’s wider risk management approach.
- Team Leadership and Development
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a large finance team (over 30 colleagues), embedding an inclusive, high-performance culture focused on accountability, learning, continuous improvement, and resilience during periods of organisational change.
- Ensure the team is appropriately skilled and equipped to deliver effectively within the finance business partnering model and across rent and service charge responsibilities.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with substantial senior-level finance experience within the housing sector.
- Proven expertise in leading financial accounting, business partnering, systems accounting, and accounts payable functions.
- Exceptional leadership skills, with proven capability in successfully managing large and diverse finance teams through periods of significant change.
- Outstanding strategic thinking, organisational skills, and principled decision-making.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, capable of producing clear, concise, inclusive, and insightful reports and strategic communications.
- Resilience, proactive approach, and the ability to independently manage complex financial environments alongside collaborative senior partnerships.
