Fenland District Council is looking for an experienced Marine professional to become their new Harbour Master
and lead operations at Wisbech Harbour Authority within Fenland District Council.
You will oversee the safe management and movement of vessels on the River Nene out into The Wash, as well as manage our Yacht Harbour and support our commercial operators at Wisbech and Port Sutton Bridge to successfully bring ships in and out of both Ports.
Main duties will include:
- Overseeing the structure, review, and implementation of our Port Marine Safety Manual.
- Working with pilots to ensure safe movement of vessels throughout our jurisdiction.
- Ensuring safety of navigation, including buoy positioning and lights.
- Surveying, preparing for, and responding to recommendations arising from our External Audit and other marine reports using best practices.
The role requires the successful candidate to be ‘on call’ for emergency response, liaising with emergency services and other stakeholders when required. You will also liaise with port operators based at Wisbech and Port Sutton Bridge and other regulatory organisations such as the Department for Transport. We have a small, dedicated Marine Services Team which you will be required to provide leadership and operational direction to. This role is an important management position within Fenland District Council, and you will be required to work within the Council’s policies and procedures, providing support and advice to the Port’s Duty Holders.
