The Organisation
This is an exciting opportunity to join a Board delivering real value to frontline NHS Services. We are purpose led and our Board really makes a difference.
Established in 2013, NHS Property Services is a property owner and manager, advisor and service provider, managing around 3,000 buildings with 7,000 tenants employing over 5,500 property and facilities management professionals. We were created to help shape the NHS estate, ensuring that our portfolio supports NHS needs both now and in the future. As a government-owned company, our primary purpose is to enable our customers to deliver excellent patient care.
NHS Property Services partners with Integrated Care Boards, Trusts, and GP practices across England to better assess, adapt, safely and sustainably. As part of the NHS, we know how it works and help our customers navigate the system more easily. Last year, for example, we unlocked more than £150 million to reinvest or reimagine spaces.
With a ‘customer at the heart’ mindset in everything we do, we have one of the biggest portfolios in the UK, at a total value of more than £3bn, representing about 10% of the total NHS estate. We work in partnership with NHS organisations to deliver outstanding quality, generating best value and cost efficiencies that will benefit our colleagues, patients, and the wider health economy.
The Opportunity
As the NHS strives to transform and reshape models of care delivery, our role has never been more important. NHS Property Services will play a central part in influencing and supporting the future public healthcare estate, and we seek to appoint a high calibre strategic Chief Finance Officer (CFO), who will assume a key role on our Executive team to lead us through the next phase of our journey.
It is a particularly exciting time to join NHS Property Services as we have launched our refreshed Corporate strategy with a clear focus on how we deliver even more value to our customers and the wider NHS. Our CFO provides critical financial leadership and will drive organisational performance to support sustainable growth. The role requires candidates to demonstrate exceptional financial acumen alongside a broad understanding of operations to ensure efficient processes and alignment with company objectives. The CFO will work in partnership with our Chief Executive Martin Steele and our wider Executive leaders to shape and execute strategies that optimise our financial health, operational efficiencies, and long-term value creation.
We seek to appoint Executive colleagues of exceptional calibre, with track records of leadership demonstrated in comparably complex, multi-stakeholder environments. They must also demonstrate the capability to bring vision and ambition, inspiring a culture of exceptional service quality and performance, at all times living and promoting the values and purpose of NHS Property Services.
The Candidate
This is an outstanding opportunity to tangibly add value and help us shape the next phase of our growth. We seek a strategic leader who brings experience of leading a complex and evolving organisation. You will bring significant exposure of operating at Board level as a Director of Finance or CFO, ideally within a similarly large scale, evolving and regulated environment; experience of shaping and implementing change on a significant scale; alongside a proven track record of financial transformation and business growth.
Personally, you will be a passionate and values-led leader and enabler of change, confident and comfortable engaging with and influencing the most senior of our internal and external stakeholders.
