Pan Macmillan is looking for a detail-oriented Data Analyst to join our London-based Analytics team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, learning new technologies, working with data to generate insight and communicating findings to a broad range of stakeholders.
Your Team
You’ll be joining a small but dynamic team of four, reporting to the Head of Analytics and working alongside a Data Analyst and a Data Engineer. We provide accurate and timely data to support insight-driven decision-making across the business, managing an expanding Snowflake data warehouse and a suite of automated Tableau dashboards. We are a project team, addressing commercial and business priorities, and all roles have some overlap and collaboration.
Your Role
Day to day, you will be maintaining and improving our existing suite of Tableau dashboards, querying our data warehouse, helping colleagues use data effectively, and answering ad hoc data queries. You will also work on longer-term projects, ensuring our suite of dashboards and reporting evolve to meet business needs.
This role also involves developing your ability to support our Engineer in maintaining our data warehouses, ensuring data quality, managing pipelines and contributing to the ongoing development of our analytics infrastructure.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining, improving, and contributing to our suite of Tableau dashboards and automated solutions
- Understanding reporting and insight needs:
- Participating in requirement gathering and translating needs into effective dashboards
- Identifying, assessing, and developing suitable data sources to support business reporting and insight needs
- Developing visually appealing and digestible reports to encourage self-service and efficiency
Essential experience, abilities and knowledge you’ll need to succeed:
- Working knowledge of relational databases, especially using SQL for querying and creating views to support analysis (ideally T-SQL or Snowflake SQL)
- Experience with data visualization / BI tools to create user-friendly dashboards (e.g. Tableau)
- Experience with one or more of our technologies: APIs, Tableau Desktop, Microsoft SQL Server, Snowflake, Matillion, DBT, AWS, Python, or other scripting and programming languages
- Some experience with data handling and data cleaning, with an interest in developing data engineering principles
- Proficiency with the Microsoft suite, especially Excel (including formulas, functions, pivots, and preferably macros/VBA)
- A curious mindset with a problem-solving approach, able to refine questions and extract stories and meaning from data
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to apply data insights to business decisions
- Ability to balance both practical and strategic thinking when working with data to produce actionable insight
- A collaborative approach and willingness to contribute ideas in a small team
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to present and interpret data for non-data audiences
- Excellent attention to detail with a focus on accuracy, relevancy, and quality
- Ability to manage workload effectively and meet deadlines.
Desirable Skills We’d Love You To Have
- Experience with using SQL to create or manage stored procedures and functions
- Familiarity with database principles and data flow concepts
- Experience with creating and maintaining project and process documentation
- Ability to understand and apply statistical methods and to identify trends, and anomalies
- An interest or experience in publishing, reading or the contemporary book market
- Experience with publishing technologies and systems (e.g. Biblio, Vista, Midas, BookScan)
- Experience in a commercial industry or department, with an understanding of business data applications.

This is a full time, permanent role, and will be based in our offices in Farringdon, London, with some flexibility to work from home each week.
