Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  1. 1st or 2nd class Physics degree or equivalent
  2. Master’s degree in Medical Physics, PhD, or equivalent
  3. HCPC registration as a clinical scientist (or anticipated imminent registration)
  4. Current driving license

Desirable Criteria

  1. Chartered Scientist
  2. Corporate Membership of the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (MIPEM), or equivalent

Experience

Essential Criteria

  1. Experience in medical physics

Desirable Criteria

  1. Presentation of work at national or local meetings
  2. Experience in interpreting different situations and judging measures required to ensure compliance in areas that relate to the legislation listed above.
  3. Experience in the use of specialist testing equipment employed to measure the safety and performance of radiological, ultrasound, MRI, and ultraviolet equipment.

Skills, Knowledge and Ability

Essential Criteria

  1. Basic knowledge of relevant legislation in healthcare and biomedical research.
  2. Computer skills (Word, Excel)

Desirable Criteria

  1. Computer programming skills. Programming and system development skills.
  2. Able to use Excel, Word, Access etc. to set up documents and spreadsheets and extract information.
  3. Able to set up and manage the acquisition and structure of information.
  4. Image processing – DICOM, Matlab
  5. Lecturing & teaching skills
  6. Basic knowledge of the techniques employed to measure the performance of state-of-the-art imaging equipment.
  7. Basic knowledge of how to measure the leakage from sealed radioactive sources.
  8. An understanding of patient and staff risks arising from radiation and laser exposure.

  2. Able to exercise own initiative when dealing with common issues within own specialist area of competence
  3. Ability to give and take criticism constructively and to know when to seek advice from others
