A dynamic, commercially minded Financial Controller is sought to play a critical role in driving financial success and support the senior management team as the company embarks on a new phase of growth. The Group operates throughout London and the South East, working with Tier 1 Contractors and House Builders.

The Financial Controller will:

  • Work closely with the Managing Director, the board, and other directors, to provide financial leadership.
  • Oversee all financial activities of the company and help drive future growth.
  • Work closely with the Commercial Director ensuring effective project management and implementing strategies to promote long-term business success.
  • Manage, develop and mentor the finance team, with a focus on collaboration and achieving strategic goals.

Key responsibilities for the Financial Controller include:

  • Financial Reporting & Analysis – oversee and prepare monthly manufacturing financial statements, including KPIs to present at monthly Board meetings.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting – support long-term strategic planning for projects and revenue, costs, and cash flow.
  • Cost Management & Control – implement effective systems and cost control measures for construction projects, liaising closely with the Commercial Director.
  • Cash Flow Management – manage liquidity and cash flow forecast for the project pipeline.
  • Compliance & Audit – coordinate the annual audit and ensure full compliance with financial regulations and submissions (including VAT, CIS, and payroll requirements).
  • Risk Management – ensure the presence of robust financial controls to identify, manage and mitigate the financial risks relating to construction projects.

The Financial Controller duties will also include:

  • Business Partnering – Work closely with the Commercial Director and MD to manage construction project profitability (through adequate project-based accounting systems), provide strategic input and due diligence for potential new projects and associated project risks.
  • Team Management & Development – Manage, develop and mentor the finance team (3 Assistant Accountants/Management Accountant).
  • Strategic Planning & Advisory – Work closely with the Director Shareholders on future business strategies and succession planning.

Suitable candidates for the Financial Controller position will:

  • Be a qualified accountant with experience of managing and developing finance teams in a high transaction environment (ideally construction or manufacturing).
  • Have commercial acumen and an analytical approach – with a strong understanding of construction contracts, project-based accounting, and risk management.
  • Have experience using Sage 200, Excel, and other accounting software relevant to project-based accounting.
  • Have a meticulous approach to tracking costs/revenues/cash flow ensuring the financial viability of projects.
  • Be dynamic and strategic in nature – to support the Board as the company embarks on a new phase of growth.
