Consultant Geriatrician with a Specialist Interest in Frailty

Location: North West of England

Hours: Part-time. 8 Programmed Activities (DCC:SPA = 4.5:2.5)

On call: Frequency 1:13; Category A – 3% on call supplement (Pro-rata)

Are you a dedicated Consultant Geriatrician looking to make a real impact in elderly care? We are seeking a highly motivated professional to join our dynamic team, working in an innovative frailty service within a well-established Department of Medicine for the Elderly.

About the Role

As a Consultant Geriatrician, you will play a key role in delivering specialist care to older patients, focusing on frailty, stroke, falls, and dementia. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you will provide comprehensive geriatric assessments and contribute to the development of patient-centred services.

This is a full-time position with an initial 10.8 Programmed Activities (PAs), including on-call duties (1:8 rota). Part-time applicants will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead the Frailty Assessment Unit, conducting ward rounds and rapid assessments.
  2. Provide in-reach services to the Emergency Department, identifying frail elderly patients for specialist care.
  3. Supervise and train junior doctors, contributing to medical education and postgraduate training.
  4. Participate in clinical governance, audit, and research activities to enhance service quality.
  5. Work collaboratively with community services to provide integrated care for older adults.

Requirements

  1. Full GMC registration with a license to practise.
  2. CCT in Geriatric and General Medicine (or equivalent) or within six months of completion.
  3. Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) or equivalent.
  4. Demonstrated experience in geriatric medicine, with a passion for service development and research.
  5. Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a commitment to patient-centred care.
