Job Title: Field Engineer (Mechanical/Welding)
Position: Contract
Location: HPC Site, Somerset (75% site-based, 25% office-based)
Duration: Until 31/12/2025, with rolling 12-month extensions
Day Rate: £450-£530 (Umbrella, Inside IR35)

Role Overview

We are seeking skilled Field Engineers with expertise in Mechanical Engineering, Welding, or Mechanical Piping to oversee and ensure compliance with quality standards across construction activities. This role involves active site surveillance, coordination with site teams, and ensuring adherence to company policies regarding construction, health & safety, and quality assurance.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Quality Assurance & Compliance: Monitor construction activities to ensure quality standards are met.
  2. Technical Oversight: Ensure all design changes go through formal approval processes.
  3. Problem-Solving: Identify potential quality issues early and implement mitigating actions.
  4. Site Coordination: Collaborate with construction teams and contractors to maintain smooth project execution.
  5. Inspection & Reporting: Verify quality inspection records, monitor contractor performance, and review documentation.

Required Skills & Experience

Essential:

  1. Mechanical Engineering degree (or equivalent) OR Welding qualifications with significant field experience.
  2. Hands-on experience with pipework, steelwork, pumps, valves, HVAC, turbines, generators, heat exchangers, and tank/vessel installations.
  3. Strong understanding of ISO 9001 Quality Assurance standards.
  4. Experience with alignment checks, torque control, and joint integrity checks.
  5. Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Desirable:

  1. Experience working on large-scale mechanical equipment installations.
  2. Familiarity with CDM Regulations and construction drawing approvals.
  3. Proficiency in using electronic hand-held devices for data capture.
  4. Fluency in English; knowledge of French is a plus.
