Our client, an innovative multi-discipline engineering and design consultancy are now looking to recruit and Engineering Manager to support with management of new and exciting major projects in the North West.

You will be accountable for providing professional technical input into engineering activities associated with plant-based and infrastructure-based projects. You will be accountable for setting the overall technical direction for projects and acting as a key decision maker, ensuring a suitable balance between all potentially conflicting drivers is achieved. You will oversee the development of design delivery schedules, ensuring all relevant disciplines are accounted for, and to manage the interface between these disciplines throughout the design development. You will represent the project from a technical perspective at key stakeholder meetings, having overall oversight of the basis for key design decisions, and a detailed understanding of the technical position of the projects.

You will be accountable for the technical delivery of fit for purpose engineering solutions through:

  • The identification of proportionate and appropriate engineering solutions;

  • Ensuring appropriate stakeholder engagement on projects;

  • Ensuring a joined up approach between engineering disciplines is achieved;

  • Ensuring logical, achievable, integrated cross-discipline schedules are developed and adhered to;

  • Monitoring delivery of the technical aspects of projects in line with the agreed scope and schedule – ensuring any deviance is appropriately justified, understood and managed;

  • escalating issues where resource conflicts between projects/programmes exist.

  • Degree qualified (BEng or MEng) in applicable engineering discipline or equivalent subject;

  • An experienced Chartered Engineer (preferable) and professional membership with a relevant engineering institution.

  • Minimum five years within the last ten years, preferably within the nuclear, or within a highly regulated and quality controlled industry such as oil/gas, power generation plant or pharmaceutical in roles reliant on professional engineering judgement;

  • Good, broad understanding of other engineering disciplines, technologies, plant systems and processes that are present in the company;

  • Understanding of UK nuclear regulatory requirements, Nuclear Site Licence Conditions and their application in engineering design.

  • Experience of complying with legal and regulatory standards and working with appropriate national, international and nuclear specific design codes and standards;

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including report writing, presentations, negotiations and customer facing skills;

  • Sound knowledge of current health, safety and environmental legislation in relation to civil engineering and specifically in the delivery utility/infrastructure related projects.

  • Thorough knowledge of up to date industrial practices related to discipline-specific engineering, including safety through design.

  • Good working knowledge of identifying hazards in a project lifecycle, applying the principles of prevention and recording design decisions in the assessment of hazards/risks.

  • Knowledge, understanding and experience of CDM 2015, with experience of fulfilling the role of Principal Designer;

  • Knowledge, understanding and experience of NEC3 contracts, with experience of preparing Works Information documentation;

  • Experience of producing high quality technical documentation, including functional and technical specifications and project documentation;

  • Experience of managing staff/agency/contractor resources and working with contractors/supply chain to deliver on budget and to schedule;

  • Ability to assess problems, feasibility and develop practical solutions;

  • Ability to maintain and develop own technical knowledge to ensure the best, cost effective and safe solutions are proposed and implemented.
