Making a difference to people’s lives is one of the main reasons why working in the public sector is so rewarding. Leading a housing service of a local council enables you to see the positive impact of your work first-hand.
Improving the quality of life for our residents has long been one of Ashford Borough Council’s key priorities. Over the last decade, we have built and purchased social housing, set up a letting agency, managed private landlord properties, and created our own property company. Ashford Borough Council is enthusiastic about delivering innovative projects such as the recent completion of a residential, zero-carbon, modular-build in a car park close to local amenities.
The Council has been through a challenging period recently, leading to a self-referral to the Regulator of Social Housing in 2024. As a team, we have embraced this positively as we are passionate about delivering excellent services for our residents. We have embarked on a period of improvement within our repairs and maintenance department, ASB handling, and engagement with our tenants.
As a landlord, we are looking to make considerable investment within our current homes to make safety and sustainability improvements. Our target is to ensure all our homes are at an EPC C rating or above. There is also a drive to increase our current stock by 1,000 homes within the next four years. We currently have a build plan of 400 homes and are in negotiation for a further 250 new builds.
To take this work to the next level, we are now looking for an Assistant Director of Housing to drive forward the service, build on recent progress, and lead a team of dedicated, hardworking housing professionals.
If you are a passionate and authentic leader with extensive housing experience, who understands the current and emerging pressures within the social housing sector, then we would love to hear from you.
