The IT Cybersecurity Specialist role is responsible for safeguarding the organisation’s information assets, computer networks, and systems. As a leading, international multi-energy company there are opportunities to grow and develop in the challenging position. This role is based in Aberdeen City Centre where staff are required to attend the office every day.
This role involves developing and maintaining a robust IT Cybersecurity policy framework, managing the IT risk register, and identifying emerging compliance requirements. Key tasks include identifying vulnerabilities, implementing security measures, and responding to security incidents to protect sensitive data from cyber threats. Collaboration with various departments ensures that cybersecurity strategies align with organisational goals and regulatory requirements. The position also involves delivering secure and compliant IT solutions and promoting continuous improvement through effective communication and process reviews.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Monitoring and analysing network traffic for unusual activity and potential threats.
- Conducting regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
- Installing and managing security software, such as firewalls and intrusion detection systems.
- Responding to and investigating cybersecurity breaches and incidents.
- Staying updated with the latest cybersecurity trends and threats.
- Developing and implementing IT security policies, protocols, and procedures.
- Identifying emerging compliance requirements.
- Providing training and support to staff on cybersecurity best practices.
- Coordinating regular IT CS risk assessments and monitoring mitigation progress.
- Fulfilling the role of Local Information Systems Officer (LISO) within the company cybersecurity community, actively engaging in strategy, risk management, and best practices.
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure cybersecurity measures are effective.
- Collaborating with internal IT Teams to deliver secure and compliant solutions.
- Leading and ensuring the successful delivery of the IT Cyber Improvement Programme.
- Championing continuous improvement in Cybersecurity through effective communication and process reviews.
Applicants to this role require:
- Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in cybersecurity or related IT field.
- Strong understanding of network protocols, firewalls, and security technologies.
- Strong knowledge of IT policy frameworks and risk management.
- Experience with compliance requirements and security controls implementation.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript).
