About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Business Analyst to work for our client within the financial services sector. This is initially a 10-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in Northampton.

This role will support the delivery of key initiatives across the markets finance portfolio. This includes hedge accounting and funding projects in the UK, subledger migrations in the US, and other critical finance transformation programs. The role requires strong analytical capabilities, hands-on experience with financial systems, and a solid understanding of accounting for markets and investment products.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the delivery of initiatives across the markets finance portfolio, ensuring projects are aligned with business objectives.
  • Support the analysis, documentation, and delivery of requirements for projects such as hedge accounting and funding initiatives (UK focus) and subledger migrations (US focus).
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure consistent progress and timely resolution of challenges.
  • Contribute to the analysis and decommissioning of existing subledger systems, ensuring smooth migrations with minimal disruption.
  • Assist in identifying gaps and designing solutions to improve financial processes and systems.
  • Support the implementation and enhancement of hedge accounting and funding processes.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and collaborate with stakeholders to improve workflows.
  • Apply knowledge of accounting principles for markets and investment products to support project delivery.
  • Conduct research and analysis to address accounting-related queries and challenges.
  • Work closely with internal teams, including risk, finance, operations, and technology, to gather requirements and deliver project milestones.
  • Provide clear and concise updates to stakeholders, ensuring alignment and transparency throughout project lifecycles.

About You

  • 5+ years of experience in business analysis or related roles within financial services, focusing on Markets Finance or Enterprise Data functions.
  • Must be Chartered Accountant/ACCA/CPA with exposure into Investment Banking.
  • Strong experience in requirements gathering and translating complex business needs into clear, actionable solutions.
  • Proficient in creating and managing business requirements documents (BRDs), functional specifications, and user stories.
  • Expertise in process mapping, gap analysis, and identifying opportunities for process improvement.
  • Strong understanding of sub-ledgers and their application within financial operations.
  • Experience in ledger process improvement, including accounting rules and reducing double key entries.
  • Knowledge of hedge accounting principles and practical application.
  • Practical experience in accounting for markets and investment products, including hedge accounting and funding processes.
  • Exposure to projects involving subledger migrations, finance system enhancements, or accounting transformations.
  • Familiarity with financial systems, data management tools, and accounting software.
  • Experience with SQL, Tableau, or similar tools is advantageous.
  • Ability to analyze complex data sets and deliver actionable insights.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field; professional certification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CPA, CFA) or progress toward certification is a plus.
