An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and proactive individual to join our team as a Children Missing Education and Pupil Tracking Officer. Due to the flexible retirement of the current post holder, the post will be 22.2 hours until 31st March 2025 and then increase to 37 hours (FTE) as of 1st April 2025.

As a Children Missing Education and Pupil Tracking officer you will be the named contact for the local authority, as required by the DfE, to undertake statutory duties with regard to Children Missing in Education and Pupil tracking. You will be responsible for recording, tracking, monitoring and locating children who have been removed from school roll or whose whereabouts are unknown, ensuring correct process is followed by partner agencies, liaise with other local authorities, update internal electronic systems and ensure subsequent admission into school or educational provision when located by alerting relevant agencies, in accordance with safeguarding guidance.

What You’ll Be Doing

Tracking, monitoring and locating children to ensure they are appropriately safeguarded and receiving an education.

Informing internal teams such as: Special education needs (SEN), Elective home Education (EHE) and Children’s Social care (CSC) etc, and where relevant, other local authorities of changes to a child’s educational provision or location.

Responding to enquiries from education establishments, partner agencies, other local authorities, and national agencies.

Keeping up to date with current legislation and DfE statutory guidance and sharing any changes to processes or policies as required with partner agencies

Provide statistical information and supporting narrative to inform reports to management boards and respond to FOI requests etc

Process and respond to requests for assistance regarding electronic children’s records

We are looking for candidates with an investigative mind, an inquisitive nature, and excellent attention to detail. You will be diligent and motivated with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, being able to communicate effectively with partner agencies and other stakeholders of all levels and have an appetite to establish new processes and working partnerships to benefit the role of CME & Pupil Tracking which will subsequently result in better outcomes for children.

We would love to hear from you if you are willing to learn, have a positive approach, have excellent communication skills, self-motivated and are able to work using own initiative. Although previous experience would be helpful, it is not essential.
