The Team and Job Summary

We are seeking a Digital Forensic Manager to join our fast-growing Digital Investigations & Discovery (DI&D) group in London. J.S. Held’s Global Investigations Practice provides companies, legal counsel, financial institutions, and other organizations with the information required to make well-informed business decisions. Our team is retained to advise in multi-jurisdictional business transactions and investments, regulatory inquiries, compliance issues, and legal proceedings. We have experts located around the globe and support clients across Europe, North America, Latin America, Africa, Asia Pacific, and the Middle East.

We are seeking a Manager to join our fast-growing Digital Investigations & Discovery (DI&D) team in London. This is a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial, highly driven person with a well-rounded skill set to join the Digital Forensics team, whose responsibilities extend beyond those of traditional digital forensic investigators. The ideal person for this role will need to have a strong grasp of collection techniques, forensic analysis, and evidence handling, but also be flexible and capable of taking on a variety of challenges.

As a member of the Digital Forensic team, you will be applying your expertise to advise our clients in highly critical investigations and disputes. You will be responsible for managing and conducting data preservation, analysis, and reporting in support of investigations, eDiscovery matters, and Incident Response engagements.

This position offers a flexible hybrid schedule. We are looking for someone who can commute to our London office. This role requires flexibility for occasional travel.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Managing a portfolio of Digital Forensic engagements with a strong emphasis on forensic data collections, analysis and expert reporting.
  2. Using industry accepted tools/practices to perform the preservation of electronically stored information (“ESI”) and validating preservation.
  3. Perform investigative analysis on digital devices or electronic data using forensic tools such as EnCase, Axiom, Cellebrite Physical Analyzer, and Cellebrite Inspector to carry out an investigation.
  4. Secure transfer of physical and electronic evidence while maintaining chain of custody.
  5. Follow best practices for client deliverables by performing quality control checks to ensure accuracy of client work product.
  6. Engage daily with client activities, including interaction with clients, internal J.S. Held teams, and other stakeholders involved with engagement.
  7. Proactive research and recommendations of technology solutions and process improvements that will ensure continued defensibility.
  8. Travel to onsite client locations for meetings, conducting interviews, or performing data preservations.
  9. Management of a lab environment and organization of evidence and assets.
  10. Must be willing to travel locally and overnight, as needed (20-25%).

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  1. Relevant work experience in the Forensic Technology industry.
  2. Bachelor’s degree or professional qualifications in Digital Forensics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  3. Professional with demonstrable experience working in the Digital Forensics field.
  4. Strong understanding of operating systems such as Windows, MacOS and Linux.
  5. Strong understanding of hardware such as laptops, desktops, servers, mobile phones and tablets.
  6. Experience with forensic tools, such as EnCase, X-Ways, Axiom, FTK, Cellebrite (Physical Analyzer, UFED 4PC, Inspector, Digital Collector), Linux-based forensic tools.
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills including experience of preparing written expert reports or witness statements.
  8. The desire to seek out wider responsibilities, take initiative and bring new ideas.
  9. Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  10. A strong desire to develop new skills and subject matter expertise.
  11. Strong organization and risk management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience of on-site forensic preservation work over corporate infrastructure, including endpoints, mobile devices, server-side infrastructure and cloud.
  2. Experience of digital forensic cases that surround IP Theft, Employee Misconduct, Malware and computer misuse.
  3. Low level understanding of file systems, file types and associated data structures and artefacts.
  4. Scripting or coding knowledge – python, Enscript, shell etc.
  5. Experience of managing a forensic network.
  6. Experience in the design and build of evidence management databases and control frameworks.

Physical And Mental Job Qualifications

  1. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  2. Ability to travel as needed.
