A leading power company, founded in 2010, is focused on developing, building, owning, and operating critical grid system infrastructure and small peaking power plants across the UK. The company provides essential services to the National Grid.
The company is seeking a Director of Engineering to take on a lead technical role within the organization. This position will involve close collaboration with the Head of Development to assess the technical feasibility of new sites, manage the connection process for new plant projects, and deliver operational assets. The Engineering Director will be responsible for ensuring that new plants are delivered in a timely, cost-efficient, and safe manner. For existing plants, this role will provide key engineering oversight while the Head of Operations manages day-to-day operations.
The successful candidate will be hands-on, working with a team of internal and external resources to support new opportunities at the bid stage and lead their implementation and operation. To excel in this role, the candidate should possess strong knowledge of project management, supply chain, and operational requirements, backed by deeper technical knowledge and experience.
Key Objectives of the Role:- Work closely with the Head of Development to appraise the connection potential and other technical aspects of possible new sites for the company’s plants.
- Rapidly produce outline layout plans and electrical connection schematics for potential sites to facilitate discussions with landlords, distribution companies, and equipment suppliers.
- Engage in meaningful technical discussions to challenge proposed technical solutions for connections.
- Post project award, manage the equipment and project tender process to ensure competitive pricing for equipment supply and that the company obtains fit-for-purpose plants at competitive costs.
- Implement project procurement, build, and commissioning processes.
- Manage the effective handover of plants to the operations team, ensuring O&M arrangements are in place, including safety management, for the life of the plant.
- Act as a Senior Authorised Person under the company’s Safety Rules.
- Manage, implement, and maintain telecontrol systems for all sites.
- Experienced power engineer with significant experience in small power projects ranging from £5M to £20M, familiar with distribution and generation issues, including protection.
- Experience working in conjunction with DNOs/TSOs.
- Ability to produce and interpret plan layouts and single-line electrical diagrams.
- Capable of managing a tight document control system and producing documents as required.
- As a member of the Executive Team, support the CEO as necessary.
- Bachelors in Electrical Engineering.
