About this Role: Experienced Design Manager or ambitious Design Coordinator looking to progress required by the Winchester office of this busy regional contractor to manage the design process for one of several new build projects in the Hampshire/Berkshire/Surrey area. Initially based between the Winchester office and site, you will be involved in one of the schemes currently in preconstruction phase. These are predominantly new build and refurbishment projects in the education, healthcare, leisure, commercial and extra care residential sectors circa £10m – £25m in value. Reporting to the Head of Design and Construction Director, and working initially with the preconstruction team you will manage the schemes through late second stage preconstruction and out to commencement on site; Thereafter you will be based between office and on site to suit the needs of the project. Duties will include: * Management of the design development for packages or sections of works; * Chairing regular design team meetings; * Management of consultant design team; * Regular liaison with client, architect, consultants and the construction teams; * Managing specialist sub-contractor design teams; * Agreement of information required schedule; Ensuring key dates achieved; * Dealing with local authorities to achieve planning permissions; * Review of construction design information for buildability, compliance with contractors proposals, employers requirements, budget, current building legislation, etc; * Identifying opportunities for value engineering opportunities where appropriate; * Proactive issue resolution; * Overall managing the smooth and timely delivery of detailed design information for procurement and construction throughout the preconstruction and build process. About the Company/Client/Project: The company is a busy Southern regional main contractor, with experience and a proven track record in the delivery of new build and refurbishment schemes in education, healthcare, leisure, commercial office, industrial buildings, extra care residential, etc in the Hampshire, Berkshire and Surrey areas. Turnover is circa £30m+ for the office which is located in Winchester with easy access from the M3. Requirements including certificates and qualifications: Either from an Engineering/Construction delivery or Architectural background, you will possess excellent technical and commercial knowledge, a keen understanding of construction methodology, materials and systems, procurement lead in times, etc. You will have excellent communication and negotiations skills, strong planning and problem solving ability, initiative and a positive approach. In terms of character, you will be a highly driven, positive and ambitious individual able to work well within a large team dynamic. You will ideally have a proven track record of successful project delivery with a recognised Main Contractor in a Design Coordination / Design Management role. High standards, attention to detail and the drive to deliver on programme, specification and budget will be very well rewarded with excellent salary, benefits, promotional and development prospects. You will ideally be located within sensible commute of the Winchester office and to the East of it, able to support projects in the Surrey region where the business has several key schemes in preconstruction currently.
