MPI are currently recruiting for an Electrical Production Manager for our client based in Cambridge.
This is a contract position, initially for 12 months with the possibility of a permanent offer for the right candidate.
The rate of pay is negotiable and is available upon application.
Purpose of the Position
Responsible for the Operations of Electrical production. Providing leadership to the team of Electrical Installation and Test Engineers. Supporting supervisors in coordinating workloads, managing performance issues, and ensuring quality standards are maintained whilst fostering a safe working culture and ensuring on-time delivery to the master plan. The Electrical Production Manager is key to ensuring compliance and the efficient operation of the department to manufacture, assemble and build specialist projects using electrical and mechanical engineering drawings and associated design data to meet the business and customer expectations.
Accountability
Responsibilities:
- Reporting to the Land Systems Head of Operations, the role is as follows:
- Fully responsible and accountable for the allocated Electrical area for all SQCDP metrics.
- Providing leadership to the team of Electrical Installation and Test Engineers.
- Manage Electrical team supervisors in coordinating workloads and ensuring quality standards are maintained whilst fostering a safe working culture and ensuring on-time delivery to the master plan.
- Ensure that all resources are working at the right levels of responsibility, managing performance issues, and providing additional training as part of the PDR process as required.
- Proactively promote a health & safety culture that is aligned with the MLS health & safety management system.
- Create a continuous improvement environment within the workplace to drive and improve efficiencies in line with business cost reduction initiatives.
- Taking ownership of local policies and procedures and ensuring they are adhered to.
- Actively engage the team to create a positive mindset that will deliver all milestones and KPIs, and where necessary proactively provide recovery plans with root cause analysis and problem solving from lessons learned.
- Create an autonomous team that provides a can-do attitude working legally, morally and ethically.
Tasks:
- Support SQCDP (safety, quality, cost, delivery, people) level 2 meetings and escalate issues to level 1 as appropriate.
- Ensure that manning levels and skill requirements are aligned to the production plan, and consider future capacity requirements through the SOP (sales and operation planning process).
- Submit yearly budgets in line with production requirements and CAPEX/control and forecasting.
- Support the MLS bid team from a production perspective to enable the bid process to progress efficiently.
- Ensure regular performance reviews are undertaken with all supervisors; role model and ensure supervisors recognise strong operational performance and act on under-performance without hesitation.
- To carry out succession planning to develop team members into future roles within the business.
- Attend senior leadership meetings as directed in line with business requirements.

Technical Competencies:
- Knowledge of Electrical Installation construction, inspection and test.
- Competent in Electrical manufacturing and processes and techniques.
- Understanding of policies and procedures required to manage a team within a workshop environment i.e. Health and Safety, Fire and Environmental Policies.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and 5S techniques.
- Team Appraisals/PDR’s.
- Ability to interact with all members of the team and possible customer interface.
- Consistent proven application to related tasks with a strong positive attitude.
- Proficient with MS suite, i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and MRP.
- Good standard of Written and verbal skills.
- Contribute to BU/functional strategy; translate into a vision for own area.
- Make timely and sound decisions with limited information and closely monitor execution and timelines; take a pragmatic approach to tackling issues within own function or business unit; only involve those who really need to be involved.
Education:
- City and Guilds Electrical Apprenticeship or equivalent.
- City & Guilds qualification for BS 7671 Electrical Wiring Regulations.
- City & Guilds or equivalent qualification in Electrical Installation Inspection & Testing.
- IOSH Managing safely certification preferable.
- Preferable to have Leadership qualification, CMI, LM.
Experience:
- Substantial experience in Electrical manufacturing and assembly processes and techniques. (10 years+ preferable)
- Demonstrable experience managing a diverse team of individuals in electrical trade.
- Proven ability to be able to lead a team through a period of strategic change, and ability to create winning teams.
- Desirable understanding and ability to read engineering drawings and associated design data.
Additional Local Needs
This role is required to be based on-site full time.
There may be occasional travel.
There may be a need for flexibility to meet the needs of the projects as required.
