Astute People’s Power Team are exclusively working with the South Clyde Energy Centre to recruit a full complement of Operations & Maintenance staff. The plant, currently under construction, is capable of processing up to 350,000 tonnes of waste per year, producing power for up to 70,000 homes. This new build Power Station is due to enter commercial operation by the end of 2026. Now is an ideal time to join the power station as you’ll be involved in full plant commissioning, training & mobilisation.
We are looking for an Electrical Engineer / Team Leader to join the Maintenance Team on this brand new facility. As the Electrical Engineer you’ll be involved with planning the daily maintenance activity of the Electrical Technicians as well as supporting with the preventative and corrective maintenance, outage & project planning and managing third party contractors.

Responsibilities and Duties:
As the Electrical Engineer you will be responsible for:
- Scheduling, planning and optimising all electrical (low voltage & high voltage) maintenance activities in a safe and efficient manner which may include generators, motors, drives, transformers and switchgear.
- Leading and managing a team of Electrical Technicians to ensure the plant is maintained to the highest standard to ensure maximum plant availability.
- Planning outages & project work.
- Managing strategic spares.
- Ensuring that all activities are carried out in a safe manner and in line with company Health, Safety and Environmental policies.
- Assisting in the setting up and development of the sites Computerised Maintenance Management System.
- Supervising and directing contractors.
- Working closely with the operations department to assess and review plant performance shortfalls and how these can be rectified.
Professional Qualifications:
We are looking for someone with the following:
- A recognised qualification in electrical / electronic engineering at HNC level or higher; other qualifications below this will be considered with extensive experience.
- Ideally qualified with an IOSH or equivalent with working experience of Electricity at Work Regulations (1989) including knowledge of High Voltage Switching, Earthing & Isolations.
- Additional working knowledge of Safe Systems of Work, LOTO, Isolations, SOP’s, RAMS is required.
- Recognised Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship.
- Qualified / Certified as a Senior Authorised Person for all High Voltage & Low Voltage activities (not required but advantageous).
Personal Skills:
The Electrical Engineer would suit someone with:
- At least five years supervisory or leadership experience or able to demonstrate extensive leadership qualities.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with a range of equipment including generators, motors, drives, transformers and switchgear.
- Working experience with High Voltage Switching, Earthing & Isolations.
- Practical knowledge of process plant and equipment gained in an industry such as Power Generation, Petrochemical or Oil & Gas etc.
- Experience in leading a team of technicians in daily maintenance practices and procedures.
- Involvement in plant mobilisation and commissioning is desirable but not essential.
