What you’ll be doing

As a Senior Data Engineer, you’ll be joining a Data team consisting of 10, reporting directly to the Head of Data. Your work will include:

• Maintaining the presentation layer of our data warehouse for reporting and analysis, including databases, schemas, views and tables.
• Building well-tested, up-to-date and documented data models that the rest of the company can use to answer their questions.
• Working closely with Data Analysts and BI specialists to understand their reporting needs and provide accurate and comprehensive data models.
• Proactively spotting opportunities to improve the design and performance of their data warehouse presentation layer.
• Supporting long-term data strategy planning, collaborating with the wider company to understand the business needs on accessing and collecting data and propose appropriate solutions, prioritising automation vs manual process.
• Setting standards for building and delivering datasets while promoting and executing data governance practices.

About you

You’ll ideally have the following experience:

• Experience working as part of a data team, preferably in roles such as an Analytics Engineer or Data Engineer.
• Comfortable adopting data engineering best practices, including version control and using Git, and you have experience teaching others how to embrace these best practices.
• You’re an SQL whiz! You know how to write SQL that is easy to understand, simple to troubleshoot, and highly performant.
• You have a solid understanding of data modelling best practices and database design.
• You possess a strong knowledge of modern programming languages, including Python.
• You communicate effectively with stakeholders and are passionate about enabling them to access data.

The interview process

• Initial Chat: Meet with the team for a competency-based interview.
• Technical Assessment Pt 1: Take home Task.
• Technical Assessment Pt 2: Onsite interview day consisting of review, new task and demo.
• Final Stage: Discuss culture and values fit with the senior leadership team (normally pulled into the third stage).
