The Turks and Caicos Islands Government (TCIG) seeks applications from suitably qualified individuals for the role of Solicitor General (SG) of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
The SG is responsible for developing and maintaining a strategic focus on litigation matters within the Attorney General’s Chambers, including representing the Government as lead Counsel in the Supreme Court and Appellate Courts in Constitutional and Civil proceedings, including civil recovery and mutual legal assistance litigation, and other matters of public importance.
As the SG, you will take the lead in initiating court actions or defending/proceeding against individuals or entities in matters related to the enforcement of contracts, bonds, guarantees, mortgages, or other collateral executed in favour of the Government.
You must demonstrate professional judgment in representing the Government in litigation and settlement negotiations while ensuring the credibility of legal advice provided. You will also provide oversight in providing advice on Public Service matters and representing the Government in related proceedings.
You will have a minimum of fifteen (15) years post-qualification experience in active practice in the public or private sector with at least five (5) years on the job experience at a senior level to acquire the necessary competencies to effectively respond to the challenges of the functions. Specialist experience in Civil, Public Law and Management is required.
