Full job title: Consultant Community Paediatrician in Neuro-disability/Clinical Director
Would you like the opportunity to work as a Consultant Paediatrician in Community Child Health?

EPUT is looking to appoint an enthusiastic Consultant Community Paediatrician in Neuro-Disability and Clinical Director to join our Community Specialist Children’s Health services based at Lighthouse Child Development service, Southend-on-Sea. This is an ideal opportunity for a driven Paediatrician to complement our team of supportive and experienced community Paediatricians in improving the health and well-being of children, young people and families in Southend-On-Sea and Essex.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide assessment and case management of children and young people with complex neuro-disability and special needs and participate in the diagnosis and management of children with a range of neurodevelopmental difficulties including ASD and ADHD. The post holder will be expected to support the overall delivery of the local service plan, through active leadership of the clinical agenda, supporting and driving service planning and change and work alongside a team of Paediatrics Community nurses who work very closely with both Community and Acute colleagues providing a ‘Hospital at Home Service’. This post is part of the triumvirate leadership of the Service, alongside the Service Operational Director.

You will be on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the time of interview.

Job responsibilities

  • To provide leadership in a Neuro-disability service sharing responsibility with the other consultants attached to the service.
  • To line manage and supervise one associate specialist within the team including appraisals, discipline, allocation of work.
  • To share specialist knowledge through training for the workforce in children’s services.
  • To be responsible for organising and prioritising own and others workload in the day to day allocation of work.
  • To have organisational knowledge relating to Trust protocols and procedures and adhere to them, particularly administration of medicine and moving and handling.
  • To be responsible for providing accurate records of information required by the Trust for audit purposes.
  • To ensure effective risk management at team level by accident/incident reporting, assessing and controlling risk and ensuring residual risks are added to the Trust register.
  • To participate in, and contribute to the provision of high quality, resource effective, child centred clinical care and treatment, in accordance with the development and implementation of clinical governance, in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • To provide leadership and educational support and take responsibility for the comprehensive community training programme for career paediatric trainees.
  • To participate in Clinical Audit and governance programmes.
  • To liaise with other agencies and departments such as Social Services, Education, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and Primary Care organisations.
  • To undertake outreach clinics and medicals at a special school for children with physical and emotional difficulties.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent.
  • Full GMC registration.
  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register of the GMC for Paediatrics or within 6 months of attainment at the time of interview.
  • MRCP / MRCPCH by examination (or equivalent)
  • Higher degree e.g. MSc, MD or other higher degree DCH, DCCH, MBA or other relevant diplomas
  • CCT in Neuro-disability
  • Some General Professional Training in Paediatrics
  • Extensive experience in Higher Specialist Training, including 3 years in Community Paediatrics
  • Experience of working with children with special needs.
  • Experience of assessing children with neuro-disabilities and neuro-developmental.
  • To be able to demonstrate high quality evidence based practice in the field of neurodevelopmental conditions.
  • CCT in Community Paediatrics
  • Experience in undertaking assessments for Looked after children
  • Specialist experience in named safeguarding role
  • Training in Autism assessment e.g. DISCO or ADI/ADOS/3DI Undertaken
