We’re looking for a sharp, driven, and experienced Account Director to join the team at Black Book. You’ll lead on major client relationships, oversee the delivery of high-profile events, and drive new business with a strategic and commercial mindset. This is a leadership role for someone with a proven track record in live events and a deep understanding of what it takes to build trust, grow accounts, and deliver stand-out work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Growth & New Business
    • Lead the development and conversion of new opportunities from warm leads to full-scale RFPs.
    • Build long-term, high-value relationships with senior clients and act as a strategic partner.
    • Own and lead pitch responses that are commercially strong, creatively confident, and on brand.
    • Represent Black Book at industry events, networking functions, and client meetings.
  • Project & Event Delivery
    • Oversee the delivery of live, hybrid, and virtual events, from initial brief through to execution.
    • Work across teams and suppliers to ensure projects are on time, on budget, and delivered to an exceptional standard.
    • Be a hands-on lead when needed, managing senior stakeholders, troubleshooting issues, and protecting quality throughout.
    • Keep the team aligned and the delivery process smooth from start to finish.
  • Account Ownership & Strategic Thinking
    • Take ownership of key client accounts, building trust, delivering on promise and identifying new opportunities that add value.
    • Create tailored account plans and deliver strategic direction that aligns with client goals and our growth targets.
    • Provide ongoing insights and advice to clients, becoming a go-to extension of their team.
  • Team Leadership
    • Lead and support the venue find and project delivery teams – creating an environment where high standards, collaboration, and ambition thrive.
    • Mentor and guide team members, sharing knowledge, setting goals, and nurturing talent.
    • Encourage a ‘one team’ approach across departments and partners.
  • Commercial Responsibility
    • Own commercial performance across your accounts – setting targets, managing budgets, and ensuring profitability.
    • Approve all initial event budgets and monitor time spent across projects.
    • Provide clear, regular commercial reporting to the CEO.
    • Maintain a healthy pipeline and use our CRM to keep visibility on all live and upcoming work.
  • Business Direction & Brand Growth
    • Support the CEO in developing and delivering the strategic direction of the business.
    • Help shape and enhance our services in line with industry shifts and client needs.
    • Contribute to building the Black Book brand – ensuring our presence, personality, and values are consistently represented.

Must-haves:

  • 8+ years’ experience in a senior client services or delivery role within a live events or experiential agency.
  • A strong commercial track record with demonstrable new business wins and client growth.
  • Proven success in leading large-scale projects end-to-end, often internationally.
  • A confident, strategic communicator with the ability to influence at C-suite level.
  • Exceptional multitasking skills, able to balance short-term delivery with long-term planning.
  • A natural leader who brings people together, motivates teams, and drives results.
  • Deep knowledge of the live events landscape, including venues and technical delivery.
  • Comfortable travelling as required, with flexibility for on-site delivery and client meetings.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Existing network of corporate client contacts and industry relationships.
  • Experience delivering across a variety of sectors (e.g., tech, recruitment, finance, etc).
  • Familiarity with CRM systems, project management tools, and budgeting platforms.
