Merton salary grade ME13 £46,512-£49,551 per annum

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Merton’s newly formed Public Realm directorate as Arboriculture Manager.

The post holder will manage, shape, and drive improvements in the delivery of the Arboricultural Service contract at an operational level, providing operational oversight and leadership for all aspects of services delivered.

To lead in the delivery of contract management policies and procedures through the operation of established performance management frameworks and monitoring systems, ensuring the reliable delivery of performance targets and securing high standards of contract management and service delivery to customers and stakeholders.

Line manage 3 direct reporting staff, including 2 Highways Tree Officers and 1 Parks Tree Officer, and facilitate the day-to-day working relationship with the Merton Tree Wardens and active Friends of Parks Groups across Merton.

Lead on the strategic delivery and management of Merton’s Urban Forest in line with the council’s recently adopted Phase 1 Tree Strategy for the future management and maintenance of trees on council land and associated action plan delivery. Work with colleagues from the council’s planning team to support the delivery of the Phase 2 Tree Strategy for the management of trees on private land.

The successful candidate will possess effective communication skills with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. You will be experienced in the management of Arboricultural contracts, risk management, reporting, and securing funding.

You will also be involved in supporting the delivery of key front-line services through a period of transition.
