The primary purpose of the Customs & Logistics Officer position is ensuring compliance with UK customs regulations, Compliance and Risk Management, and Liaison with Authorities.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  1. Act as a guru in the field of HM customs & Revenue to help support the company with our legal obligations to customs procedures.
  2. Assist Finance team with the Duty deferment account queries and act as a go between for our dept./finance/HMRC.
  3. Navigate and keep up to date with the latest HMRC requirements.
  4. Support the Team with Export/Import work to generate more revenue for the company.
  5. Compliance and Risk Management: Monitor changes in customs regulations, update internal processes, and conduct regular audits.
  6. Liaison with Authorities: Maintain communication with HMRC and relevant authorities, facilitate customs inspections, and resolve issues during clearance.
  7. Negotiate freight costs and prepare offers/tender responses.
  8. Maintain positive customer relationships and promote services.
  9. Prepare accurate and competitive quotations.
  10. Timely creation and processing of invoices.
  11. Support DSCS colleagues in multiple locations.

Qualifications

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  1. 3+ years of experience in Freight Forwarding/Import/Export.
  2. Customs Qualification BIFA – BTEC.
  3. Minimum 5 years’ experience in a customs clearance role.
  4. Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving capabilities.
  5. In-depth understanding of UK and international customs regulations, including tariff classification, valuation, and origin rules.
  6. Established experience of T1 creation, discharge, and set up.
  7. Ability to run a logistics job completely independent.
  8. Good negotiation skills.
  9. Positive attitude to work.
  10. Demonstrable ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  11. Familiarity with customs software and electronic data interchange (EDI) systems.
