Role

To provide general technical and logistical assistance to a small team involved in Broadcast Television Engineering.

Responsibilities

  1. Preparation and maintenance of equipment
  2. Cable termination, testing and preparation
  3. Location inspection and testing of engineering systems installed by the company at client sites
  4. General technical and practical assistance on site and at base
  5. Organisation and upkeep of the warehouse
  6. Equipment handling and preparation
  7. Low level equipment maintenance, testing and repair
  8. Cable “ending” and connector replacement
  9. Fibre splicing
  10. Driving, sometimes long distances
  11. Vehicle care and management
  12. Warehouse and premises organisation and maintenance
  13. Dealing with general enquiries from staff, clients, suppliers and public

Requirement

The ideal candidate will be technically minded, rather than necessarily an experienced technician, able to take things apart and put them back together. On the job training will be provided as necessary but the candidate will already have a demonstrable understanding of engineering and electronics from a technical background and proficiency.

IT and computer literacy are important and the role will suit someone who wants to enjoy what they do and be part of a team long term. Practical skills such as wiring and soldering, together with a full, clean driving licence, are essential.

Based at Redhill, Surrey, the post will involve extensive and frequent UK travel and working away from base on a weekly basis, involving overnight stays.

Essential

  1. UK Passport or valid Permit to work in the UK
  2. Technical awareness and interest
  3. Practical capabilities e.g. soldering
  4. Good organisational skills and “Can do” attitude
  5. Customer Care and Service ethic
  6. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with people at all levels
  7. Full clean driving licence
  8. Computer literacy and experience
  9. A self-starter with the ability to work alone and unsupervised
  10. Adaptable and flexible
  11. Well organised and good time management

Desirable

  1. Technical drawing skills
  2. Calm disposition with a sense of humour
  3. The ability to negotiate deals with sub-contractors
