Job Introduction

The Quality Inspector is responsible for managing the independent site inspections. Providing assurance to both the SCSJV Management and the Client that the Delivery Team and the supply chain are delivering the Works in accordance with the Works Information and the design requirements. The first line of defence will be by the delivery of on-site training and coaching of the Delivery Team. The second line will be by carrying out inspections of the Works. The role will involve working in a specific area of the project and providing support to other Quality Inspectors across both sections of the project.

Role Responsibility

  • Be proactive in preventing substandard Works being produced by coaching and providing training.
  • Be the arbiter between all parties on any quality-related issues, preventing them from being raised directly to the Project Director where possible without compromising quality.
  • Ensure that quality management is given the highest priority in delivery to achieve right first time.
  • Communicate with delivery team and sub-contractors to ensure full understanding of quality assurance requirements.
  • Check the works during progress and on completion to ensure that it has been constructed in line with the Work Information.
  • Communicate to the Quality Managers and Quality Engineers any non-conformances.
  • Ensure that inspection and tests are carried out in line with the inspection and test plans, Safe System of Work for controlling the works, and that all necessary documentation is produced in a timely manner.
  • Assist the Quality engineers in carrying out site surveillances.
  • Carry out duties in accordance with the SCSJV Core Values. Understand the Client and Joint Venture Partners\’ Environment and Sustainability Policies, Processes, and statutory requirements as they affect the company\’s operations and ensure that the requirements, as applicable within their discipline, are implemented on the project.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience within a quality-related role on a major infrastructure project.
  • Experience of working on Civil engineering projects.
  • Computer competence (MS Word, Excel).
  • Extensive experience onsite inspections against an approved Detail Design and onsite NCR management.
  • Relevant CSCS Card.
  • On-site training in Quality.
  • Experience working in tunnels is desired.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 quality management systems is desired.

The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high-speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable, and frequent high-speed services.

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks, and the construction of site compounds.
