Location: We are on the search for a Reservoir Engineering Apprentice working in some of the most remote areas within the Huddersfield/Halifax areas.
Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Reservoir Engineering Apprentice to join the Raw Water Team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

Here in Yorkshire, we make sure that over 5.4 million people living in the region and the millions of people who visit our region each year can rely on our services, and have clean and safe drinking water on tap and that their wastewater is taken away. But for us, it’s so much more than this.
New environmental legislation, unprecedented levels of investment and changing expectations from customers means that this is an exciting time to discover opportunities within the water industry. Raw Water are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.
We are currently looking for a Raw Water Apprentice who will manage workload and resources to efficiently operate raw water assets. You will have ownership and responsibility for the output and performance of raw water assets, ensuring delivery of service, compliance and value targets.
Where you fit in:
- Work as part of the team to deliver excellent performance by understanding how their individual performance links into achieving the team’s wider objectives.
- Operation and maintenance of raw water assets achieving financial targets for unit costs within regulatory compliance.
- Operation and maintenance of assets in accordance with WRAP guidelines to deliver the optimum resource.
- Maintaining and promoting a safe working environment
- Compliance with statutory requirements (Water Quality, Environment Agency, H&S, The Reservoirs Act, Water Industries Act 1991)
- Liaise with other bodies where necessary to resolve/implement. Responding to external customer enquiries and complaints, investigate problems, identify solutions (Estate owners, Planning Authorities, National Parks, Environment Agency and Farmers)
- Awareness of the interaction of activities on other parts of the business and communication and liaison with internal customers in such circumstances.
- As part of this role, you will be required to work within confined spaces therefore any successful candidate must pass strict medical criteria including, BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, and Spirometry tests to ensure your full safety when working in hazardous environments.
What apprenticeship standard will you study and who will be your training provider: Our Reservoir Engineering Apprentices have lots to learn about maintaining, repairing and carrying our minor works on a variety of water environment assets and therefore our apprentices study the level 3 Water Environment Worker apprenticeship. This is delivered through a blended learning approach through regular webinars as well as regular campus visits on a block release basis.
What skills & qualifications will you need:
- To have obtained or be predicted 5 GCSE’s grade A-C or 4-9 including English and Mathematics.
- An I.T. qualification at GCSE/level 2
- A full UK Driving licence and the ability to travel to a remote location within your allocated area (Hallifax/Huddersfield or Leeds/Harrogate) at the start of your working day.
You will also benefit from having:
- No unspent criminal convictions
- Have previous experience of working in the outdoors and be willing to work in the outdoors
- This role has a requirement to carry out occasional work in confined spaces so the successful completion of a medical performed by our Occupational Health Department and the relevant training course is essential.
