The Role:

We are seeking a skilled Interaction Designer with a strong background in government projects and GDS (Government Digital Service) standards. The ideal candidate will have experience with Gov.UK design guidance and, ideally, familiarity with Heroku. This role involves designing user-centric services, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring that products meet user needs and business goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with your team to define the user experience (UX) strategy for products and services.
  • Conduct research to understand service and business needs.
  • Analyze issues and recommend user-centric solutions.
  • Build prototypes and drafts using the Gov.UK prototyping kit with HTML/CSS to communicate ideas effectively.
  • Write clear specifications and guidelines for developers and designers to ensure consistency and alignment with GDS standards.
  • Work closely with visual designers to ensure that designs meet user needs and expectations.
  • Partner with the research team to plan and conduct user research and testing.
  • Lead or participate in review sessions to evaluate project progress and outcomes.
  • Use feedback from research and testing to refine designs.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in interaction design, particularly within government projects.
  • Extensive experience with GDS assessments and Gov.UK design guidance.
  • Familiarity with Heroku is a bonus, particularly as it is the DWP\’s preferred upload tool.
  • Proficiency in prototyping with the Gov.UK prototyping kit, using HTML/CSS.
  • Strong skills in conducting user research and testing, with the ability to translate findings into actionable designs.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on user-centered design.
