As part of a growing and agile business, our Environmental Planning team is looking for a Regional Leader for the South West and Wales Planning and Environmental, Assessment and Management Team, which includes the Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter and Truro offices. You will be an Associate Technical Director or above with a broad range of Planning and, or, EIA/SEA experience. This role suits someone who is passionate about the integration of EIA/SEA/Environmental input within the Planning process – a Chartered Town Planner or Environmentalist.
The role forms part of the matrix roles within the leadership team for the Planning and Environmental Assessment and Management Team and is responsible for providing a strategic oversight and coordination of their region – liaising closely with the other Regional Leads across the UK. A confident and unflappable approach is required, and you will work collaboratively with a range of technical specialists on a broad range of projects, lead and coordinate planning work, including planning applications and consents advice, EIA/SEAs and related deliverables, working closely with clients, develop new areas of business and mentor others in the team.
You will be working on a diverse range of projects including large scale energy and infrastructure, rail, highways, water and defence projects, mixed-use development schemes for both private and public clients, public realm and masterplanning projects as well as more small scale projects that require a nimble and agile approach. We drive technical excellence in everything we do and promote a flexible and collaborative environment supported by digital innovation. You will play a key role in the successful delivery of multidisciplinary projects across the UK / worldwide.
Role accountabilities:

Leading the team in the South West and Wales, responsible for recruitment, growth, actively overseeing bidding and project delivery and leading on some key Clients in the region

Leading on the coordination and delivery of planning / environmental work being undertaken by multi-disciplinary teams, influencing project development and delivering optimal environmental and planning outcomes

Support business development activities through participation in external market profile raising activities and functions, and through involvement with key clients.

Raise awareness of our services in the region, winning new opportunities and building new contacts. Support staff in all offices within the region to also develop in this role.

Actively engage in key client relationships, lead by example creating cross selling opportunities for the wider business.

Obtain regular feedback from clients on our performance and look to cross-sell the wider business.

Working in partnership with other members of the Environmental Planning team and provide planning / environmental advice and support to clients, project managers and colleagues

Engaging with consultees and stakeholders

Managing projects, overseeing our performance on technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety

Excellent working knowledge of the UK Planning system and consenting process, including EIA practices and procedures, including case law, and a solid understanding of environmental and sustainability principles and environmental technical specialisms

Experience across a range of project types

Strong report writing, verbal and presentation skills with experience in reviewing the work of others to ensure quality

Experience in multi-disciplinary co-ordination and leadership of projects, with good project management and technical skills

Experience in consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators and stakeholders

Commercial expertise, including forecasting, project management and quality assurance

Relevant degree or equivalent qualification, preferably with chartered status or working towards

A flexible, pragmatic, and collaborative approach to work

Experience in the delivery of DCO/TWAO / SEA and/ or Integrated Impact Assessment (IIA) projects would be welcomed

Desired: Full Member of IEMA/IES/CEnv/RTPI.
