About the Role

As a Principal Engineer in Power Electronics, you will be instrumental in developing power electronics systems across various applications, from concept design to hardware implementation. This role involves creating requirements, circuit design, and prototype hardware for systems like traction inverters, DC-DC converters, onboard chargers, and related technologies. You will work in virtual, HiL, and hardware testing environments and manage projects that combine technical, commercial, and customer-facing elements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design Leadership - Lead the design and specification of magnetics and capacitors for power converters and inverters.
  • Develop mixed-signal systems and processing platforms.
  • Simulation and Testing - Perform simulations using tools like Simscape and PLECS.
  • Collaborate on control strategies for power converters and inverters.
  • Standards Compliance - Ensure designs meet standards such as IEC61508, ISO26262, and CISPR25.
  • Project Management - Lead multi-person, cross-functional projects that are technically and commercially challenging.
  • Take ownership of large project proposals, business development, and marketing activities.
  • Customer and Team Interaction - Build and maintain relationships with key customers.
  • Contribute to team culture, acting as a role model for professionalism and technical standards.
  • Innovation and Capability Development - Identify and implement new technical capabilities.
  • Support the development of others within the team.

Role Requirements

  • Extensive experience in power electronics and magnetics development (e.g., inverters, OBC, DC-DC).
  • Expertise in digital and mixed-signal control/interface circuit design.
  • Proficiency in electrical noise attenuation and EMC design.
  • Skilled in simulation environments for power electronic and magnetic systems.
  • Proven ability to lead development projects and maintain technical customer relationships.
  • A relevant degree or equivalent experience.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of digital motor control schemes and related fault/protection systems.
  • Experience in the design and assembly of power electronic systems, including PCB layout and thermal management.
  • Training in the safe operation of high-power, high-voltage equipment.
