We have two exciting opportunities for Communication & Engagement Advisors to join the Brand and Communications team at Yorkshire Water.
What we do:
Everyone has an idea of what a water company does. Here in Yorkshire, we make sure that over 5.4 million people living in the region and the millions of people who visit our region each year can rely on our services, and have clean and safe drinking water on tap and that their wastewater is taken away. But for us, it’s so much more than this.
We look after communities, protect the environment, and plan to look after Yorkshire’s water, today, tomorrow 24/7, 365 days a year. We provide essential water and wastewater services to every corner of the Yorkshire region and play a key role in the region’s health, wellbeing, and prosperity.
New environmental legislation, unprecedented levels of investment, and changing expectations from customers mean that this is an exciting time to discover opportunities within the water industry.
Where you fit in:
As our Communications & Engagement Advisor, you will be at the forefront of telling customers about all the investment we’re making across Yorkshire by delivering brilliant customer engagement.
You’ll be working closely with local communities to build their understanding of what we’re doing to improve and ensure we’re leaving a positive lasting legacy after we’ve finished investment work. With over £8.3 billion being invested across Yorkshire over the next five years, it’s really important we’re doing everything we can to let customers know how this money is being spent in their area through planned pro-active engagement and communication with our customers, stakeholders, and communities.
You’ll be expected to create and deliver pro-active bespoke communication plans for Yorkshire Water’s capital schemes, making complex engineering simple so our customers and stakeholders understand what we’re doing, how, and why. To do this you will need to build a strong and effective network and develop excellent working relationships with project managers in the capital programme, contract partners, and other Yorkshire Water teams.
You’ll be out and about talking to customers and stakeholders at events, drop-ins, and meetings to promote the good work we’re doing and engage with them. Alongside this, you’ll be optimising all our channels to make sure we’re getting the message out there about each capital scheme. You’ll be making sure each brand touchpoint that customers have with us through the capital scheme is engaging and will look for further opportunities to get our messages out into the community.
You’ll need to work closely with the wider brand and communications team to maximise media coverage and provide information for use on both traditional and social media platforms. You’ll look at how we can use digital channels to improve the customer experience, creating engaging web content. You will also work closely with our education and partnerships team to fully engage the wider work we’re doing in the community.
What skills & qualifications you will need:
- Significant experience as a communications or community engagement professional within an agency or in-house environment
- Proactive, creative, and driven individual with an ability to put creative ideas into action
- Previous experience of delivering effective communications with significant results and within a pressured environment
- A proven track record of delivering brilliant customer engagement
- Ability to influence key stakeholders both internally and externally
- Excellent skills in relation to online channel and content publishing
- Ability to create content that users want to engage with and utilise this content to build relationships and create advocacy
- Strong knowledge of the communications and engagement environment
- Strong ability to organise and plan work
- Able to work independently and support and contribute to a team
- Strong knowledge of the overall online environment including social media and how this can be used to drive interest in the work we do.
- A Public Relations or similar qualification would be advantageous but not essential.
Although we operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, it’s important to us that we support flexible working patterns and job share options (when we can), to help you make the best of both your work and home life.
