Head of ProductB2B2C Digital Marketplace Reports to: Founders Location: Hybrid – 2 or 3 days a week in Manchester (to be discussed) Remit: Lead product manager and owner, first product hire, potential CPO elect (also to be discussed) The Company:A popular and successful digital marketplace, with a great reputation and millions of usersHighly profitable start-up with an excellent track record of growthSerious ambitions to grow a US business Backed by significant PE investment Still a founder-owned, and founder-led business Looking to mature into scale-up mode as it enters its next cycle of growthThe Brief:A huge opportunity to own and deliver an innovative product roadmap in full – the strategy, the investment, the hiring, the process and systems. This business is small (sub-50 FTE) and still feels like a start-up. The Head of Product would work one-on-one with the founders to create an innovative and scalable digital marketplace. They already have traction with advertisers that provide content, massive traction with users and paid subscribers who use the website, and solid relationships with many large household brands who white label the product for customer or employee loyalty schemes. But this is a business that has grown up (until now) organically and self-funded. They have never hired a product lead nor employed a product person. Somewhere in their UX and business model are multiple opportunities for value creation that only a highly experienced digital product manager will understand. This could be low hanging fruit around UX and functionality, or long-term value creation around the offering and partnerships. We ideally want someone to work on both. This is a small, fast moving, start-up environment. The ideal Head of Product would be quick to act, experimental / iterative, and enjoy beings hands on. They would work well with small teams, apolitical cultures, and love tinkering to see what happens. The Candidate: Previous B2B2C or digital marketplace experience, business models with multiple parties and stakeholders, where balance is the key to value creation A product manager with ideas – a doer not a procrastinator, someone who has concepts for product improvement and wants to make them happen Data driven in their decision making. Able to evaluate ideas quickly, test them to see if they work, and evolve them if they do Someone who could create processes and systems for product delivery that would set the business up as it scaled, and hopefully endure even if the person leavesIdeally, a strong technical base or background in coding. Dev time is precious, and being able to manage and optimise development of new features would be an added bonus If you want to connect and learn more, please send me an email to stephenr@alexanderrhodes.co.uk and I will respond within 48 hours.
