Job Summary:
The Health Science Lecturer is responsible for teaching, researching, and contributing to the academic environment in the field of health sciences. This role includes delivering high-quality instruction in courses related to public health, healthcare systems, epidemiology, health promotion, medical research, and other health-related topics. The lecturer will also engage in curriculum development, student mentoring, and academic research in the field.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Course Delivery:
- Develop and deliver engaging lectures, seminars, and tutorials in health science-related subjects.
- Plan, prepare, and update course materials (syllabi, reading lists, lectures, etc.).
- Create, administer, and grade assessments (exams, quizzes, assignments, and projects).
- Provide feedback to students on academic performance and guide them toward academic success.
- Foster an interactive learning environment that encourages student participation and inquiry.
Research and Scholarship:
- Conduct and contribute to academic research in the field of health science.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at academic conferences.
- Pursue and apply for funding for research projects in health science areas.
- Collaborate with colleagues, research institutions, and healthcare organizations.
Student Support:
- Provide academic advising and support to students.
- Mentor and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students on their academic projects and dissertations.
- Offer guidance on career development and opportunities in the health science field.
Administrative Duties:
- Contribute to departmental and institutional initiatives and meetings.
- Participate in the development and review of academic programs and curricula.
- Assist with student recruitment, orientation, and retention efforts.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, grades, and attendance.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Educational Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Master's degree in Health Science, Public Health, Medical Sciences, Nursing, or a related field (PhD preferred).
- A teaching qualification (e.g., PGCHE) or willingness to obtain one is an advantage.
Experience:
- Previous teaching experience in higher education or relevant professional experience in the healthcare field is preferred.
- Experience in academic research with published works is advantageous.
- Familiarity with various teaching methods, including online and blended learning.
