About Us:
Founded in 2012 in Harrogate, Truth Legal set out to be an ethical, tenacious and affordable law firm. We continue to champion our clients as well as our colleagues by offering a collaborative, supportive work environment which prioritises a positive work-life balance.
About the Role:
This is not just another role—it’s a rare opportunity to shape something from the ground up. As the Head of our newly established Family Law department, you won’t be stepping into an existing structure; you’ll be building one. You’ll have the freedom to design the department’s vision, strategy, and culture from scratch, making your mark on the future of Truth Legal while delivering high-quality, affordable legal services.
We’re looking for someone who either has the proven experience of building a legal department or, more likely, someone with exceptional technical expertise in family law who is ready to step out of the traditional legal hierarchy. If you’ve ever thought, “I could do this better,” this is your chance to prove it.
Working closely with the directors at Truth Legal, you’ll have the autonomy to implement the best practices you’ve acquired throughout your career, while collaborating to create a forward-thinking, client-focused team. This is your opportunity to shape not just a department but a career path that reflects your vision and values.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and lead a new Family Law department
- Take ownership of the department’s vision and strategy, defining the areas of focus and funding arrangements and ensuring alignment with the firm’s overall mission and ethos.
- Manage a varied caseload of complex family law matters, offering expert advice to clients in need of legal support.
- Oversee all departmental processes, ensuring high standards of client service, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.
- Drive the growth of the department, including business development, marketing, and networking efforts to attract new clients and build strong professional relationships.
- Implement efficient systems and practices that will ensure the department operates smoothly and profitably.
- Foster relationships with clients, other legal professionals, and external agencies to develop the firm’s reputation as a leading provider of family law services.
- Hire, train, and develop family law solicitors and support staff, building a positive and collaborative team culture.
Key Requirements:
- Qualified solicitor with significant experience in family law, ideally with at least 4+ years PQE.
- Proven leadership and management experience, with the ability to build and lead a team in a growing department.
- Strong technical expertise in all areas of family law, with experience in complex family matters.
- Excellent communication, client management, and negotiation skills.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to create and implement strategic plans for department growth and success.
- Demonstrated experience in business development and client relationship building.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and drive results in a new and evolving department.
– Competitive salary and benefits package.
– Opportunity to shape and lead a new department with long-term career growth potential.
– 25 days of holiday plus bank holidays
– Company pension scheme
– Private health insurance and death in service benefit
– Firmwide social opportunities
– Employee Assistance Programme:
- Wellbeing and Health Information
- Structured Counselling
- Debt and Money Information and Support
- Legal Information
- Remote GP Services
- Subsidized Optical Treatments – eye tests, prescribed glasses or contact lenses
This is an incredible opportunity for a Family Law solicitor who is ready to take on a leadership role and has vision for the creation of a new team. If you are excited about establishing a new department and building a team from the ground up, we want to hear from you!
