About the Role – The Food Safety & Allergens Manager advises on food safety and allergen issues, ensuring compliance with legal and best practice standards. They lead allergen strategy, provide consultancy, training, and support business growth. Responsibilities include managing high-value projects, mentoring junior staff, and driving new services while supporting profit generation and client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities, initiate new business, develop marketing, propose new allergen services, improve existing ones, and manage client relationships.
  • Provide technical advice, interpret test results, offer training, and support team development while staying updated on industry standards.
  • Improve processes, ensure quality control, and optimize internal and client operations.
  • Align with corporate values, mentor team members, and support the Safety & Quality Team Lead as needed.

Qualifications

  • Graduate level qualification(s) in science, law or related subjects.
  • At least 3 years minimum experience of food allergen management and its role in the wider context of food production (such as alignment with HACCP), and the theory and practice of testing, specifically using ELISA, DNA-based or mass spectrometry techniques.
  • Acknowledged expertise in the field of food allergen testing, evidenced through production of publications, contribution to training and/or involvement in relevant research.
  • Good understanding of the food industry and a proven track record in mentoring colleagues.
  • Experience of large-scale project management and securing significant revenue.

Pay range and compensation package – The Food Safety Manager job (ref:8851) is based in Cheltenham and is paying £48,000 – £58,000 according to your experience. There will be flexibility around the hybrid working element of this role.
