“Find your role”

This is a key role advising teams across the whole of the business on competition workstreams (contentious and non-contentious). You will be an important business partner supporting Asda\’s commercial teams.

Given the breadth of the Asda business, you will be exposed to a wide range of competition law work ranging from mergers and market investigations through to High Court and CAT litigation, strategic collaborations, compliance work and grocery-specific competition matters such as GSCOP and the Controlled Land Order. Going forward, you will be able to help shape Asda\’s approach to emerging competition-based regulation.

As well as having demonstrable experience of providing clear and concise legal advice, working flexibly and identifying and understanding the needs of business partners you will:

  • Work in a dynamic team focussed on delivering clear legal advice and support at pace on competition law and connected matters (both contentious and non-contentious).
  • Be actively encouraged to think innovatively about the delivery of legal support, engage in horizon-scanning and provide key advisory on changes in the retail and consumer space.
  • Recognise and align advice across related legal requirements impacting a business area/ project e.g. engagement with regulators, market studies and strategic projects.
  • Contribute to the business’s success through cross functional partnering to deliver its plans as well as preparing reports on key workstreams to update and inform internal stakeholders.
  • Partner with various stakeholders, including Senior Directors, legal suppliers, Legal and Compliance leadership team, and external counsel and advisers.

  • A qualified lawyer (up to 5 years PQE) with a background in Competition or in Commercial or Commercial Litigation but with an interest in developing expertise in Competition.
  • A track record of delivering advice in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.

  • A clear communicator and skilled relationship-builder.
  • Strong decision-making skills with a high level of attention to detail, commercial acumen and accuracy.
