Job Introduction

As a Lived Experience Peer Support Worker , you’ll leverage your personal journey to make a genuine impact in the lives of children and young people with Autism.

You’ll be a trusted role model, guiding children and young adults through challenges, helping them navigate resources, and connecting them with their community. Drawing from your lived experience, you’ll provide empathetic, practical, and meaningful support that fosters hope and empowers families.

This role combines teamwork, personal initiative, and community engagement to ensure every child receives the personalized care they need to thrive.

Main Responsibility

  • Support Autistic children and young people in achieving their care plan goals through one-on-one or group engagements, focusing on trust and connection.
  • Share your own experiences to build rapport, instill hope, and provide practical advice.
  • Champion social inclusion by creating connections to community resources and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with families, carers, and professionals to deliver a holistic, relational approach to care.
  • Co-produce services in partnership with children, young people, and their families to meet real needs and ensure positive outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of your work using systems like SystmOne.
  • Work flexibly, demonstrating resilience and adaptability in meeting challenges.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Criteria

  • Personal experience with Autism or neurodiversity and the ability to share your journey in a meaningful, impactful way.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to connect effectively with children, young people, and adults.
  • Empathy, patience, and a solution-oriented mindset.
  • Solid organizational and time-management skills.
  • A valid driving license and access to a vehicle for work.

Desirable Criteria

  • Level 3 qualification in health and social care or equivalent experience.
  • Experience supporting neurodivergent individuals or those with mental health needs.
  • Knowledge of child development and an understanding of how trauma impacts behavior.
  • A proven track record of making a positive difference in the lives of children and young people.
