What is the job?
Reporting to the Warehouse and Logistics Manager and working 6.00am to 2.30pm Monday to Friday, you will take day to day responsibility for a team and managing the order picking workloads. You will ensure all procedures are followed and KPIs are maintained e.g. picking accuracy etc to provide the best possible service to our customers.
As supervisor, you will be expected to provide effective and proactive leadership to your team, spending much of the day on the shop floor, balancing day to day activities with your people management responsibilities. These include conducting regular reviews (and PDR reviews), managing timekeeping and attendance including holidays and conducting Return to Work Interviews, as well as undertaking the training of all current staff, as well as new starters. This includes assisting with hand-held scanner training and organising any training of machinery e.g forklifts.
To be successful in this role, you must be able to demonstrate experience in the following areas:
- Previous experience managing a team, ideally in a warehouse environment.
- Excellent communication skills.
- The ability to deal with difficult situations in a calm and effective manner.
- Good problem solving skills.
- Confidence with technology e.g. handheld scanners and IT systems, including MS Office/Excel
- The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Good planning and organising skills.
- A FLT licence would be an advantage, as would previous experience using tugs, handheld scanners and picking platforms.
Key Tasks include:
- Ensure all orders are complete, picked and packed to meet deadlines by supervising staff appropriately.
- Comply with H&S regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
- Liaise with transport on orders to be despatched on our own transport.
- Provide cover for supervisor colleagues when required, e.g. holiday.
- Ensure excellent housekeeping standards are maintained in the warehouse.
- Assist with stock checks.
- Conduct regular audits on orders to check for accuracy.
- Make decisions to adjust workloads as necessary to complete tasks.
People Management Responsibilities
- Lead and motivate the team
- Communicate job expectations and coach the team.
- Assign workload and discuss staffing levels with the Warehouse Manager.
- Supervise all training and develop the team, ensuring training records are kept up to date.
- Complete all return to works interviews/forms and monitor timekeeping and attendance.
- Carry out appropriate reviews for staff, e.g. probation, annual review
