About the Role

We are currently looking for an experienced Senior Compliance Manager to lead and enhance our regulatory compliance framework. If you have a background in compliance within an asset manager, this is a fantastic opportunity for you. This is a key role in ensuring we meet all legal and regulatory obligations while fostering a strong culture of compliance.

Based in Wolverhampton, this role reports directly to the Chief Legal, Compliance & Risk Officer (CLCRO) and plays a vital role in shaping LGPS Central’s compliance function. You will work closely with internal teams—including the Board, Executive Committee, investment, legal, and risk teams—as well as external regulators such as the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

LGPS Central Limited is an FCA regulated asset manager and manages the pooled assets of eight Midlands-based Local Government Pension Scheme funds.

Responsibilities

  • Continue to develop and implement a robust regulatory compliance strategy and framework, ensuring adherence to all relevant regulations and internal policies.
  • Establish and maintain effective compliance control systems, infrastructure, and monitoring processes to support business operations and mitigate risks.
  • Promote and embed a strong compliance culture, integrating compliance management into broader governance frameworks and internal controls.
  • Identify and respond to regulatory developments that may impact LGPS Central, providing strategic guidance and risk mitigation proposals.
  • Oversee all compliance reporting, including routine and exceptional reporting to the FCA and other regulatory bodies, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Act as the primary liaison with the FCA and other regulatory authorities, managing regulatory relationships and interactions effectively.
  • Manage compliance-related incidents, breaches, and escalation protocols, ensuring timely resolution and continual improvement of controls.
  • Provide proactive compliance advice to investment, risk, and legal teams regarding business strategies, fund structures, and regulatory matters.
  • Lead compliance training programs, ensuring staff across LGPS Central are informed of regulatory obligations and best practices.
  • Maintain oversight of financial crime compliance, including Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Market Abuse, and data protection responsibilities as the designated Data Protection Officer.
  • Manage and oversee the Compliance Manager, including their line management of the Compliance Analyst and any other roles, ensuring their professional development and effective contribution to the compliance function.
  • Support the CLCRO in delivering compliance-related governance responsibilities, including reporting to Board and Executive committees and sub-committees and ensuring the effectiveness of compliance controls across the organisation.

Required Skills

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop, mentor, and inspire the compliance team, ensuring professional growth and high performance.
  • Working in a senior compliance function within the UK asset management or financial services industry.
  • Managing and overseeing a compliance team, including direct reports.
  • Engaging with financial regulators, particularly the FCA.
  • Managing compliance frameworks and regulatory reporting obligations.
  • Leading compliance monitoring, thematic reviews, and regulatory risk assessments.
  • Providing regulatory guidance to senior stakeholders, including investment and risk teams.
  • Handling regulatory interactions, including FCA supervisory reviews and enforcement matters.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong understanding of the UK regulatory framework for asset management, including the FCA Handbook (e.g., SYSC, COBS, FUND, and MAR).
  • Knowledge of financial crime compliance, including Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Market Abuse regulations.
  • Understanding of governance structures and regulatory requirements applicable to LGPS pools.
  • Familiarity with ESG regulations and their implications for asset managers.

  • Degree level or equivalent
  • Has or can meet all the requirements of being an FCA approved person
