The Royal College of Psychiatrists is the professional medical body responsible for supporting psychiatrists and for setting and raising standards of psychiatry in the UK. The Board of Trustees is responsible for ensuring the long-term success of the College, maximising its impact, and making sure it sets the agenda in the delivery of excellent mental health services. It enables psychiatrists and other mental health staff to deliver outstanding patient care by rigorously testing the College’s strategy, ensuring its effective delivery, and identifying and managing strategic risks. As a member of the Board, you will act collectively to provide strategic leadership, oversight, and governance to the College, adding value by contributing your experience and expertise in either Finance or Mental Health.

We are now looking to appoint Lay Trustees to our Board and are particularly interested in candidates who bring experience in the fields of: finance; legal; and/or, NHS leadership. The successful candidates will bring demonstrable leadership experience in their respective fields, with the ability to operate strategically and collectively, with an understanding of corporate governance and board responsibilities, and with at least one of the candidates ideally bringing experience of overseeing digital and cyber from a corporate risk perspective. As effective communicators, you will challenge constructively and respectfully and have a demonstrable ability to understand and evaluate complex issues. Individuals with independence and integrity, you will be supportive of the College’s values of Courage, Innovation, Respect, Collaboration, Learning, and Excellence.
