Role overview

Newsworks is seeking a proactive and experienced digital marketing and content executive to join its busy communications team. This role will collaborate and work closely with our editorial lead to deliver an effective digital and content strategy, raising Newsworks and the news brand industry’s visibility and reputation via quality content creation and thought leadership. The role is also responsible for reporting on key data and analytics, managing email and social media marketing, and ensuring SEO best practice.

Key responsibilities:

1. Digital strategy

  • Lead and deliver digital marketing strategies for Newsworks’ overall goals as well as across key projects such as events and research
  • Responsibility for Newsworks’ digital platforms including website, email and social media

2. Content and thought leadership

  • Work with the communications manager to deliver a proactive content strategy, utilising big news events and a content calendar to ensure we produce topical and timely content that appeals to our core audience of advertisers and media agencies
  • Ensure content is presented in the best way across different platforms and for different audiences
  • Consider how to maximise engagement and visibility of content, via PR, paid and earned opportunities
  • Write and create relevant news stories, thought pieces and social posts
  • Share knowledge and understanding of key digital technologies that impact the industry with the wider team and company, such as AI
  • Attend relevant industry events and report on them

3. Data and analysis

  • Monitor the ongoing performance of all digital assets and identify areas for improvement or potential opportunities
  • Provide weekly and ad hoc updates on digital performance, and a more detailed report to monitor trends and areas of success or concern

4. Database, CRM management and email marketing

  • Build new and innovative email marketing campaigns, ensuring best practice is followed and we maximise quality and engagement
  • Deliver a clear email marketing plan for Newsworks’ projects, ensuring lists are created and cross-checked, and we’re making the most of our database, as well as building it where possible
  • Develop a CRM strategy and oversee its delivery, including assisting with supporting and improving the quality of our database and cross-referencing all our data streams to better understand our core audience

5. Social media marketing and digital advertising

  • Provide support to the communications team on delivering social media marketing and reporting on the performance of our social media platforms
  • Manage and report on any Newsworks’ digital advertising, for example via Google Adwords or LinkedIn
  • Advise on and report on third party delivered ad campaigns, ensuring we can make the best decisions possible by accurately reporting on all performance metrics

6. Website management

  • Build basic web pages via WordPress and upload new content, ensuring it follows Newsworks comms, digital and SEO guidelines
  • Manage an external developer or third-party agency to build bespoke web pages and/or tools for individual Newsworks projects
  • Ensure features and pages work correctly across all digital platforms, and any bugs are reported and fixed in a timely manner

Person specification

  • Proven experience in digital and content marketing
  • Good knowledge of WordPress and CRM tools
  • Expertise in managing social media strategies to drive brand engagement and awareness
  • Good writing, editing and verbal communications skills
  • A sound understanding of content’s role in the customer journey
  • Good understanding of content marketing strategies and SEO practices
  • An analytical mindset with the ability to use data to inform decisions
  • Creativity and adaptability in creating and repurposing content for different platforms and audiences
  • Commitment to maintain brand integrity and stakeholder management
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects and deadlines
  • Proactive and positive attitude with good attention to detail
