About the role:

Would you like to work on designing the latest cutting edge weapons systems used by the Royal Navy? Our customer is at the forefront of military weapons systems production, offering a broad range of products and aftermarket services to a global portfolio of clients.

Due to a period of significant growth, they are seeking a highly motivated and talented individual to join their systems engineering team as an Electrical Design Engineer. This role is to develop and design electrical/electronic design solutions to support the life cycle of our weapon system range.

This role will involve working on analogue and digital hardware design, wiring design, and overall system integration. The successful candidate will collaborate with other teams to create cutting-edge designs that meet industry standards and customer requirements.

The main responsibilities will include:

  1. Design electrical systems, including power distribution, control panels, and instrumentation.
  2. Creation of new and maintenance of legacy analogue and digital circuits, including components/parts selection and evaluation.
  3. Evaluation of system requirements and identification of the correct technical solutions.
  4. Generation of test, interface, and supplier documentation.
  5. Support of the test department in initial first of class (prototype) testing.
  6. Writing reports, giving presentations, and meeting with customers and senior management.
  7. Ensure designs are completed on schedule, within budget, and in line with quality standards.
  8. Provide technical advice and support during the installation, testing, and commissioning phases of projects.
  9. Collaborate with other departments, including mechanical, software, and project management teams.
  10. Any other such duties that may be reasonably compatible with the nature and scope of the role.

About the person:

To be a successful candidate for this role you must be able to demonstrate the below attributes and skillsets:

Qualifications/ Education

HND or a degree in Electrical Engineering or demonstrable experience in a related engineering field.

Technical skills/ experience

Knowledge and experience of electrical design techniques relating to industrial wiring and general system interconnection.

Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.

Experience in the usage of common electrical test equipment for the purpose of fault finding and prototype testing.

Excellent technical report writing skills to support proposals by creating documents and compliance matrices.

Ability to present technical information to audiences with all levels of technical experience.

Experience with electrical design calculations and analysis.

Personal Attributes/ Person Specification

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across various departments.

Desirable

Knowledge of working to industry standards (e.g. Defence/ Military standards).

Experience of PCB layout packages.
