Job Summary
The Capital Structure & Rating Advisory team provides thought leadership, best practice insight, corporate finance and rating advice to mainly FI clients. Content is driven by deep understanding of client needs, sector trends and market themes to help the origination efforts.
The purpose of the role is to partner Relationship Managers and Product Partners to engage priority FI clients on capital structure and regulatory insights to further origination efforts. Scope of this engagement would include bespoke capital structure analysis, regulatory overviews and implications, credit ratings advisory, capital instruments advisory and sectoral thought leadership.
The Director is responsible for implementation of the Capital Structure & Rating Advisory team’s origination, coverage and execution strategy for Financial Institutions globally.
Responsibilities
- Assist the process of identifying the needs of clients and potential solutions for these needs, in partnership with all relevant internal and external stakeholders.
- Actively engage with clients, establishing a role as a trusted partner / thought leader in respect of areas of team competence.
- Develop excellent working relationship with rating agencies.
- Deliver thematic content and analysis regularly through well researched sector with select clients in target sectors. These sector thought-leadership pieces will focus on mega trends, provide strategic insights to core clientele, and deepen sector expertise across the broader SCB banking team.
- Deliver relevant pitches together with Coverage and Product Partners, ensuring nuanced communication of storyline, to maximise client impact and to facilitate effective follow up.
- Deliver the strategy for Client Coverage globally by partnering with Client Coverage & Product Partners, involvement in strategic planning discussions and regular review of client engagements and plans.
- Keep WIP file and COOL list up to date.
- Support with origination pipeline and client selection and report appropriately and timely to ED.
- Help to maintain ratings advisory pipeline and deal team.
- Ensure Conflict of Interest register remains updated.
- Set appropriate tone and expectations for the team and work in collaboration with risk and control partners.
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience of a similar role, in a leading commercial and/or investment banking environment.
- Proven track record of managing FI clients in the East, with respect to addressing capital structure and rating relevant topics from both a practical and a theoretical standpoint.
- In-depth understanding of relevant aspects of FIs, including regulatory requirements, capital instruments, rating agency requirements, key sectoral trends, etc.
- Strong analytical ability, with a proven ability to translate clients’ needs into business opportunities and to serve as a “trusted advisor/partner” to and advocate for clients.
- Understanding of investment and commercial banking organisational design and a demonstrated ability to ‘navigate’ to achieve client delivery in a safe and sound manner.
- Developed and broad experience in banking across multiple business segments, focused particularly on SCB’s product set and footprint.
- Familiarity with rating agency methodologies.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with proven ability to work across cultures and within a dynamic environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to appropriately ‘manage’ demands from peers and superiors.
- Genuine team-based approach to making the organisation work for the business.
- Comfortable with an advisory/structuring role with significant client contact.
