As part of the Design Integration function and aligned with the 3-6 Design Interface Managers on the project, you will ensure the interface management procedures are understood and followed by the project team, and effective arrangements are established and maintained to identify and resolve design interfaces. The project team includes people internally, lead design consultant, subcontractors and third parties, including rail system designers for the conventional and high-speed railway.

You will drive progress towards resolution of design interfaces for both the detailed design and Subcontractor design, including technical change. You will ensure residual actions from the design interfaces are transferred to relevant owners and similar for residual risks.

Progress will be measured on resolution of detailed design and Subcontractor interfaces against the programme priorities. In this way you will support the project team right first-time delivery of Subcontractor design.

Main Duties:

  • Ensure the project team follows the Interface Management procedures for assigned Subcontract works packages.
  • Engage with the project team on all matters relating to design interfaces.
  • Ensure effective arrangements are in place and maintained for design interface meetings to satisfy the delivery programme priorities.
  • Ensure decisions and actions are taken in response to incoming third-party design models for Lead Designer and subcontractor designers.
  • Monitor interface scope and progress towards resolution of design interfaces for both the detailed design and Subcontractor design, including technical change.
  • Report on resolution of interfaces on design interfaces for both the detailed design and Subcontractor design.
  • Ensure assumptions made with interfacing designers for the detailed design are shared with third parties in good time for the Subcontractor design programme priorities.
  • Report on completeness and resolution of the interfaces for the Subcontractor design against the programme priorities.
  • Review master detailed design interface register, Interface Control Documents and supporting records.
  • Review Subcontractor interface management plans and give get forms.
  • With the other design interface managers, agree responsibility for ownership of the master Subcontractor design interface register.
  • Publish extracts from the master Subcontractor design interface register for assigned Subcontractor packages at agreed stages to support definition of scope and progress towards resolution of design interfaces.

Skills / Knowledge

  • Degree in Bachelor of Engineering, or similar.
  • Chartered or working towards Chartership.
  • Experience in a civils or station building design management or technical assurance role involving engagement with stakeholders on design, including interfacing designers, asset owners / operators and subcontractor designers.
  • Experience on projects in the UK with railway interface.
  • Effective communicator, both listening to others and explaining own considerations to seek agreement on what is best for project.
  • Positive approach to teamwork and collaboration, demonstrate leadership and proactiveness with the rest of the project team, including the client and key stakeholders.
  • Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams.
  • Additional level of professional recognition (e.g. Fellow) or qualification in management.
  • CSCS card
  • PTS card
  • Previous CRE appointments.
  • Experience on major station build or redevelopment projects.
  • Experience of model exchanges with third party designers in a common data environment.
  • Experience of supporting systems integration activities.
  • Experience of applying the NEC conditions of contract.
  • Experience of using CEMAR or EB systems.
